DAILY TELE6BAPH. AlUliSfiURG, 'pA. TUESDAY EVENING, AUG. 31, 1877., JOTTINGS. Rather warm.

Eat plenty of fruit. Summer is "waning. Venus is the boss star. Hand shaking is in order. .1 Examine the registry lists.

Button holing in the coiner. Bummer is chasing, its dog days to a close. Total eclipse of the moon next Thursday vening. Philadelphia thinks she Otterson have something. The best spent public money pays for the public schools.

Some of the delegates think this is the onnoi tunitv. Some came without money, and they'll go home without Price. Tramps are depredating along the line of the Pennsylvania railroad. It will be the work of but a few days to finish the repairs to the bridge. The man with the white beaver hat is on deck at the Convention.

Shoot it. The Sheppard has sent his lambs from Philadelphia to look out for his interests. The Nationals and Atlantics play a game at Union Grounds on Saturday afternoon. A great many people from this city will be in attendance at the Presbyterian reunion to morrow. The attention of the authorities is directed to the dilapidated pavement on Third street between North and Liberty.

Camp meetings will soon be over. All accounts go. to show that many of the meetings were unusually well attended. There 'are two four hundred disorders to which the human frame is liable. A wasp sting concentrates them all.

The Actives, of this city, and the Murphy Boys, of Baldwin, played a game of ball yesterday, the score standing 8 to 6 in 1 A TT f1C mvui w. laic a vwiw exchange publishes an article about "singing mice." Until we hear a mouse trill half a dozen airs from "Madame An got," we won't believe there is such a thing. According to the New Era, "Rey, Mr. Clawges, of Harrisburg, the great temperance war horse," is doing active work in Lancaster for the Murphy cause. But who is the Rev.

Clawges? The dead body of Wesley Hogan, a colored man formerly of Middletown, this county, was picked up near Rohrerstown, Lancaster county, on Saturday. The man had been killed by a passing train. Walter L. Rhinehard, at the Steel Works, received his monthly pay on Saturday and hung his vest, containing the money, against the wall. In the evening, before going home, he discovered that' a sneak thief had stolen his wages.

This is the meanest kind of thieving. Hon. Simon Cameron has converted his delightful grove encompassing the Donegal Springs into a public park, for which design it is admirably adapted, and it consists of several acres of land, in the form of a triangle, densely shaded, and surrounded on each of the sides by public roads, while five converge near the apex. Col. Caldwell, of the Seventh regiment National Guard, has issued a congratulatory address to his command.

He says: "Your conduct on the march and in camp was all that could be desired; your steady adherence to discipline was such that the people among whom you were located were particularly gratified." The people of Harrisburg agree with the Colonel. Acknowledgment. For our daily reports from the Cumberland Valley camp meeting we are under obligations to Mr, H. Mosser, of near New Cumberland. These reports, while neces4 sarily condensed, owing to the crowded state of our columns, have been prepared with great care, and, were highly complimented by the numerous readers at camp.

We predict for Mr. M. a bright future. Meritorious Promotion. We have been informed that Capt.

Thos. F. Maloney, of the Harrisburg City Grays, will have command of one of the companies to be formed for the three months' service, that position having been tendered him. No man in military circles is better qualified than Captain Maloney to assume the duties of the new appointment. By his efficiency as a drill master and tactician he standard of excellence, and his many friends in this city will rejoice to hear of his merit ed promotion.

Hill Notes. The Adjutant General is daily in receipt of applications for positions in the three months' service. An order was tsent last evening to Gen. Piersori, whose headquarters are at Kingston, relieving one tenth of his command from active duty. This will allow business men to go home.

Hon. W. Schell will occupy committee rooms No. li and 12 during the sitting, of the Democratic State Convention to morrow, 'ft If''' The Knights of Pythias are in secret session in the House to day. Resident Clerk, John A.

Smull is still busily engaged shipping documents to members. Under Mr. Smull's directions 150,000 Records have been received, folded and mailed to 4,000 addresses and 1,500 letters desiring information answered, since the close of the session. Howard Adams has been busy during the past week arranging the hall of the House for the Knight of Pythias and Democratic Convention. Valley Camp Sleeting.

Prom the Camp Daily we glean the fol lowing items concerning the Juniata Valley camp meeting The efficient force of special police employed by the railroad company at the camp station consists of Messrs. Fagley, Wolf, Roush, Byron. Long and Mellin, under officer Roate. Under their watchful care perfect order and eafety have thus far been maintained. But one word to describe Dr.

Fowler he is "immense." A little girl was poisoned on Saturday by handling plants in the woods. "Uncle Hartman, the old Methodist Temperance War Horse, arrived on Saturday. Every bed at the command of the Association was rented for Saturday night early in the evening. Is it possible that six families have to crowd into one little tent in order to get accommodations on the ground There were just fifty preachers, members of the Central Pennsylvania Conference, present at the Camp up to Saturday evening, A copper head snake, measuring nearly three feet, was killed at Westbrook's restaurant, near the Camp Ground, on Tuesday morning. Rev.

Riddle took strong ground, in his Sunday aftenoon sermon, for the observance of the Sabbath, by Camp Meeting Associations and other corporations. A fire broke out in the kitchen of the boarding tent on Friday morning last, while breakfast was being prepared, but was extinguished before doing much damage and without creating an alarm. A man was arrested on Friday for selling liquor in small quantities on the ground. He was sent to Tyrone, where he with the warning to keep away. Should he fail in this he will find board and lodgings iu the jail at Lewistown.

Thus far the best order has been maintained, notwithstanding the large number of people present. Every shade and diversity of character is represented, here. In very few cases has the police power been brought into requisition. Saint and sinner seem to emulate each other in the pi cserya" tion of peace and harmony. The editorial fcateraity has been well represented on the ground.

Mont Alto Park. In order to accommodate parties intending to join the excursion to this, place tomorrow, the Cumberland Valley ticket jvill bo, open for. the sale of excursion ticket this evenhig front six until half past seyfea. o'clocki. Fast special train making but two stops leaves the depot at 7:45 A. m. Persons desiring "pleasure and comfort will do well to take this train. Mayor's Court. vagrants were allowed to dwell the city until this morning, when withm they were released and ordered to leave town.

Tempest Chronister took a walk with a man on his way to the Great West. The man wanted to see the sights and Tempest volunteered to show him. It required considerable beer to enablo them to see the sights properly, and Tempest and his companion got elevated, so to speak. The police took them in. On searching the stranger a ticket for Chicago and $25 in money was found on himy but how long he would have had possession of it is a problem, considering the company he was in.

Tempest went to jail and the emigrant was discharged. While Officer Gallaher was arresting a drunken man last evening, the d. m. kicked the officer in the eye, and it is now shaded in mourning. The "handy man with his feet' went up for thirty days.

He is at Bolton's. Sadden Death of a Well Known Clergyman. From Public Opinion of this date we learn that Rev. D. K.

Richardson, pastor of the Presbyterian congregation at Green castle, died suddenly yesterday (Monday) morning at o'clock at the residence of Mr. Charles Ruthrauff. Mr. Richardson had just resigned his congregation at Greencastle which he had served six years and accepted a call to Vincennes, Ind. AH his goods had been packed and sent forward, and part of his family were at iddlespi ing, where he had formerly preached.

On Sunday he was to have delivered his farewell sermon, but was too ill to do so. Mr. Richardson had, however, sent a letter asking for a congregational meeting on Monday with a view of uniting in a request to the Carlisle Presbytery to dissolve the relation. He expected to leave immediately for his new field of labor, but this was anticipated by a call to "come up higher." Mr. Richardson was well and favorably known to many in this city and vicinity, and his sudden death will be a shock to his numerous friends, here and elsewhere.
