and his wife Donna Tierney of Denver, NC; eight nieces and nephews; many friends and co-workers. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, the daughter of George A. Jr. and Marguerite from (Walsh) Venerini Tierney. She graduated Worcester, and later from University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT, where she received a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.

She graduated from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, she received a Master's Degree in Public Administration. Sponsored by New York State Governor's Office of Employee Relations, her studies focused on the development and implementation of public policy issues. Ms. Tierney was the Coordinator of Vocational Rehabilitation Operations in the New York State Education Department's Office of Vocational and Educational Services for individuals with Disabilities. Under Ms.

Tierney's leadership, the office oversaw the training and placement of nearly 192,000 New Yorkers with disabilities into the workforce. She was a member of the Albany Historic Preservation Society, the Arbor Hill Mansion Restoration Project, the Booster Club of Downtown member Albany, and a long time of the Albany Chapter of The Adirondack Mountain Club. Her most favorite organization was The Ronald McDonald House of Albany, where she spent much personal time with the children and families staying in the house, she did much fundraising for the house, and was a member of the Board of Directors. She was an interviewer for prospective students at Harvard University and was an avid hiker, skier, and kayaker. Her funeral will be held Friday, 29 from the Mercadante Funeral Home 370 Plantation Street, WORCESTER, with a Mass celebrated at 11 AM in The Church of Saint Anne, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA.

She will be laid to rest in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester, MA. Clive Charles, who coached the University of Portland women's team to last year's national championship and the US men's soccer team to the semifinals of the 2000 Olympics, died of prostate cancer yesterday. He was 51. One of five NCAA coaches to win more than 400 soccer games, Mr. Charles coached Portland's men's team from 1986 to 1989, when he took over as the coach of the women's team. He had a combined 439-144-44 record.

He led Portland to 13 conference titles, 20 NCAA tournament berths, and seven Final Four appearances as coach of both the men's and women's teams. "Clive's life and work were gifts of extraordinary worth, and his impact as teacher and coach, friend and mentor, will be felt for many years to come," the university's senior vice president, Rev. E. William Beauchamp, said in a statement. "I definitely owe my career and where I am today to that man," said Shannon MacMillan, the US women's national team player who starred for Portland in the 1990s.
