There is a change in the things we love. They have changed from, the old to the the change has not in every instance been an improvement in fact, we come to think seriously about many "of these changes are an confess to a weakness for old things) this may, perhaps, be owing to the fact that we are growing old ourselves.

Be that as it may, some innovations sicken us make us feel unpleasant in the re gion where that which is needed to sus tain our pnysicai vitality is stowea away. We do not now allude to the strange freaks of fashion to that abominable costume which makes a lady in full regalia look for all the world like a cat with a feather pillow tied on its back nor to what is more reprehensible still the latest cut of pantaloons for male.bipeds, though we never see a gentleman in tighta without being reminded of the fox that lost his tail i a trap and then endeavored to induce all his acquaintances to have their continuations cut ofT oh gardon us, we meant to say amputated, some young man, being scarce in material, had, from necessity, his unmentionables cut in the present style, and all his admirers have done likewise. Men who have never read a medical work, and who do not understand the most ordinary medical terms, write M. D. after their names. We know a man who, at ,1 a certain season or tne year, goes out and carefully scrapes the bark from the root of what rural folks call the "white walnut" scrapine upward that which he designs for an emetic, and vice versa that to be used as a purgative. In cases of typhoid fever he gives the eme tic first, and in measles, small pox, Ac, the purgative is first employed.

For ague he gives quinine and whisky and lor intermittent lever wmsky ana quinine. Many a man is deceived by the title. and employs the servicesof these mounte DanKs to tne detriment or nis iamiiys health, and many an one now sleeps the sleep that knows no waking, murdered through the ignorance of men claiming to be regular physieians, but who have never mastered even a medical dictionary. Dear Telegraph: This morning at a Quarter past seven o'ciock we ar rived at the home of our father. We left Harrisburg yesterday with a heavy heart.

At the depot we tore ourselves away irom tne embraces or aear ones, and bade adieu to a few fast friends who were determined to see us to the last. The rain: coming down in torrents, and Ani inti1nr oil a fVsitew i vn nn1 oiron inv VUll lyAAUAA (111 IC1 AlWll (M1U CUlllgs added not a little to our depression, and this circumstance, taken in connection with the other, made our departure far less pleasurable than many other occasions which have occurred in our history. At Lewistown we were met at the depot by our special friend, Rev. J. B.

Baltzly, pastor of the Lutheran church at tnat point, ana naa coaxing availed anything, would have stopped with him for the night. But our face was set westward, and so, saying what TV 1TV1U3 DWUVU QIAS TTVU1U OUVIft and bidding him good bye. we proceeded onward. At Altoona we were much re freshed by a most excellent supper. Everybody knows this. It is not only its comfortable cars, and genueraeniy conductors ana rapia going that please tne traveler, but tne sense of security he teels as soon as be seats him self behind one of its engines.

We can hardly account for it, yet the moment we mount its train we reel safe. And even when you pass over that sublime portion of the road, stretching across the Alleghenles, and look down its deep preelpices. you look in defiance upon their yawning gulfs that threaten every moment to swallow you. Of course the knowledge of a well laid track, faithful watchmen, wide awake engineers and sound cars, does much to contribute to wards this sense of security. The renn sylvan ia Central is a wonder.

It Is an achievement which evinces how com pletely human mind and hand are the masters of huge natural obstacles. At Massillon we stop over one train, and as the time for our departure is near at hand, we must take an unceremonious leave, of von. We nroceed to Chicago at 2:40 this afternoon.
