K. MILLKK. or riil Deed of Blood Intense Excitement la Firemen mna JKaiiroad circles Last Night Miller's Good Character, and the Desperate Career ot the Assassin. The news of the murder of William K. Miller, a citizen of Harrisburg, at Mont gomery Ferry.

Ferry county, the main facts of which were given in the Telkcbapd yesterday, was a subject of excited conversation in fire and railroad circles, where the murdered man was well known and much liked. In the Fourth ward, on South between Second and Third street, and on State, where the Miller fam ily are well knownt the murder created a deep feeling of sorrow. William K. Miller was a son of Charles Miller, who for years worked for the late William H. Kepner.

The elder Miller was a member ot the llope engine company and worked, for Mr. Kep ner until he died. lne nope company buried him. usins their hose carriage a a hearse. The murder was prompted by jealousy.

The cause of the murder crew out ot Mr, Miller's attention to Miss Maria Hammaker, a young lady also well known in lUn'u burg, having lived for some time South street below SocvukL Last wwk tU young lady vrent to her home at Mottvm cry's Ferry, IVrrv county, tv arrau nor wedding with. Sunday last Muter wsta4iUr risburg to see his mother, prior to. his marriage, as he then stated, which was to have taken place, or to be announced on Tues day. On Wednesday evening Miller left liarnsburc to co to lontcomerv erry.

and was met at Newport l)y his intended wife and her brother, who were on their way home, Miller accompanying them to Montgomery's Ferry. It was while waiting at tne terry to go to Altoona that 31uler and his wile were confronted by Albright. The murderer stalked into the room where the young peo ple were engaged in conversation, and with out a word or a threat deliberately drew his revolver and shot Miller through the heart. He did not sneak a word betore or after the deed, but, pistol in hand, rushed at once to the road, where for a moment he brandished his weapon in the faces of the few horror stricken people who were pres ent, and fled to the mountain. Great excitement at once prevailed.

Miss Hammaker was borne in a senseless condi tion from the room, and the body of the murdered man was placed on a sofa, but life had fled when he fell shot to the heart. If the people had had Albright in their pos session thev undoubtedly would have lynched him. Albright is a dissolute, desperate cuarac ter." a marauder against whom many crimes are aIIppWI. He has been eneaered in many bloody Irays, having been accused wnn killing a man in Texas, and then flying that part ot the country, uetectives leit tne city last nisht to eo in searcn ol him, a worK which many think will result in bloodshed before he can be taken. Later The At rival of the Body ot Mr.

Mil ler Great Kxcitemenl at the liepotaudln Cumberland Street. The delay in forwarding the body of the murdered man, Miller, to his mother iliouse on Cumberland street, was occasioned Fty the time taken in getting the coroner to the scene ot the tragedy. 1 he inquest was held late last night, and a verdict in accordance with the facts was rendered. The body shows two bullet wounds. Miller was struck by two bullets, one the breast, passing through the lung on the left side and put of the back, and the second entering the bowels.

It is not fully decided by the surgeons whether the shot which passed though. the lung touched the heart or not. Both wounds are about one quarter inch in diameter. Three shots were fired, the desperado delivering the third at Miss Hammaker, which, in his excitement and haste, fortunately missed its object. A postmortem examination of the body of the murdered man will take place to morrow afternoon, such being the wish of his relatives and friends.

Theory as to the Murderer's Whereabouts. Albright is said to be an experienced woodsman," thoroughly familiar with the bridle paths of the mountains. It is theorized by many that he will push on to West and in the dense wooded mountains of that region manage to elude arrest for some time. When the body, in charge of the undertaker, reached Cumberland street there was a great crowd on hand and eager efforts made to get into the house, but all persons were excluded, the Wagner family very properly declining to see any strangers. The body was not in a condition to be seen by any one, it having received no attention whatever since it passed out of the hands of the Perry county coroner.

Charles F. Miller, lather of the murdered man W. was buried by the firemen of Harrisburg, Sunday, July 3, 18C0. It was the most imposing firemen's funeral ever had in Harrisburg. the commissioners of county, it was reported here this afternoon, had declined to offer a reward for the arrest of Albright.

A telegraphic dispatch was received by members of the Citizen engine company, from friends of Miller, at Newport, lor assistance to aid in scouring the mountains in search of Albright. Chief Ciley contemplates organizing a force, which, if he succeeds in getting the men, he will take to Newport to morrow to make a search in the neighborhood. The funeral of the murdered man will take place at four o'clock on Sunday afternoon, from his mother's residence on Cumberland street. All the fire companies have been invited to attend. Humored Arrest of Albright.

Rumors were circulating thi3 afternoon uiui. weietuvc Aiiuerson naci received a dispatch from New Bloomfield, announcing the arrest of Albright. Inquiry showed that no such dispatch had been received, though Detective Anderson has had commu nications from the district attorney of Perry county on the subject of the murder. I he passage ot western bound freight over the Pennsylvania railroad is heavier now than it has been for years. The vard anuiiaucipiua is crowaed witn cars, pre paiuioiy hj miming up trains, and every tjj mi, jiii pirn is now run' ning to meet the demand for transportation. While this, in a measure, is due to the im proved condition ot business, it is also largely to be attributed to the advantageous facilities of this road in its immense and complete western connection.

The crews ui nuiguL trains leei mis pressure very much, as it taxes their endurance to a high degree. We repeat what was stated in these columns a week ago, that the freight out iuua. uu ui eunsyivania ranroad was never as encouraging at this season of the year as it is at present. Personal. CHARGED WITH MURDER. An Alleged Assassination Casper W. Nye Accused and Arrested lor tne Murder or Cyrus Craig, at Dauphin, In July Last. Our readers will remember the account of the death of Cyrus Craig, a colored man, at or near Dauphin, early in July. The body was found on the railroad track, and a coroner's jury returned a verdict of death from unknown causes.

1 he night before the finding of Craig's body he with others, of whom Casper W. Nye was one, were engaged in drinking, Craig, it is alleged, indulging to excess, gulping down a pint ot whisky at a single drink, just before the party broke up, and then staggered oil along the Susquehanna and Schuylkill railroad, whero the body was found next day. A coroner's jury was Held as stated, but, some weeks alter, the body was disinterred and re examined, but no marks of violence were found on it, when it was re interred, and the subject was nerly forgotten, when the arrest of Nye was made last night, which has revived the first excitement caused by the finding of the Kxlv, It appears that on Wednesday night Nye, a brother of Craig, and several ether winv engaged in drinking at Dauphin ttdhd'gvn to the water tank, a few miles above tne former place, when the party got lute a difficulty, Craig showing bad blood fer Nyv the two coming to blows, and a severe only prevented by the interference of the jviriies present. The next day Thursday) Craig came to Harrisburg, and made information before Alderman Maurer. UiehafW H.

Craig, in the information before the alderman, charges that "Nye did beat, strike and wound Cyrus Craig on the 2(5th day of July, A. D. 1879, in said county of Dauphin, and him, the said Cyrus Craig, then and there did kill, slay and murder. Constable Samuel Gray, with a warrant issued by Alderman Maurer, arrested Nye last evening two miles above Battling Bun, and brought him to this city, when ho was committed for a hearing. The hearing has been arranged for Monday to enable the parties involved to get their witnesses at the alderman 8 office.

Casper W. Nye was one of the principal witnesses in the Rabcr murder trial for the State at Lebanon. Uanphlu County Agricultural Fair. Accounts received from all parts of the county indicate that the Dauphin County Agricultural Fair will be more successful than was at first anticipated by its pro jectors. Farmers throughout the lower end, as well as those of the upper end, have long felt that an exhibition of the kind can derive no eclat unless it is held at a centre of population, and where the press has the facility and convenience to make it known before and appreciated after it has been be fore the public.

Exhibitors understand this fact, and therefore hesitate to go where there are no newspapers. They might as well seek to exhibit stock, agricultural pro ducts and machinery where there are no neonle. Hence a fair should always be held in the centre of which means that it will have the advantage railroad facilities and newspaper encour a cement and support. For these reasons he purpose ot holding the county agncui tural fair this fall in Harrisburg is heartily seconded by farmers and mechanics, manu facturers and merchants throughout tne county, who regard its locality as a pre cursor of success that will "not tail in being brilliant and profitable. The fair will be one of the largest held in any county in the State.

Already the en tries of goods are very extensive, manutac turers from abroad desiring to become ex hibitors in a region where there will be an opportunity of meeting people with'twhom they have not had an intercourse on such an occasion, and of participating in rivalries which are offered. The whole enterprise has cur hearty good wishes. Foreign Fruits in Home Markets. There ought to be some standard estab lished for the regulation of the sale of for eign fruits, such as fruit from the South, in the local markets of the North, a regula tion by which the people of cities like liar risburg would be protected from imposition in the purchase of unripe melons and veg etables. In the matter of melons, such truck, when brought from a great distance, is always plucked before it is fully ripe, so as to insure it from decay in transportation In a sanitary view this is a practice full of danger, as there is nothing more deleterious to health than unripe fruit or vegetables, and in commercial view, it is an imposition which ought to be made punishable at law.

Every city ought to guard against such inroads upon the health of its population, and particularly under present conditions, when epidemic diseases of a fatal character pervade regions near where much of this fruit is gathered and brought to the North. It is a subject worthy of newspaper discussion, that the people may be able to appreciate its import ance and tncreiore lorce action upon it on their local governments. The Case of Peter Herdlc. In the case of Peter Herdic, upon a re hear ing of the case to day before the Governor, it having been shown that Herdic is already under bail to answer indictments in two counties in this Commonwealth, on simliar charges, the Governor decided to revoke the warrant recently issued for his arrest, upon the requisition of the Governor of New York. The fact that nerdic was under indict ment this State was not known to the Governor or to the counsel for Herdic at the previous hearing, or the requisition would not have been honored at the time the warrant was issued.

One of Uncle Cam's Boys. John Stammy, a native of our city and wno enlisted in tne regular army a year ago or more, by Col. Their symptoms and treatment in this age of inventions it is very remarkable, but none the less true, that the symptoms of worms, a disease of the most dangerous character, are so little understood by the medical men of the present day. These parasites undergo the most cunous transiormations. They re main months and even years in the body before they are fully developed. They only mature in parts oi tne body which communicate with the external air.

as in the alimentary canal, or lungs, but gener ally the former. There are numerous kinds but the most dangerous and by far the most difficult to remove is the tape worm. This worm is constructed of flat pieces, which are con nected to the head by a very fine neck. The parasite is sometimes thirty feet long, but is so thin that the worm could be held in a small bottle. The symptoms of this, as of other worms, are weakness and irritation, To effect a perfect cure the head of the worm must be removed.
