BY MARY PARKINSON Albany Democrat-Herald Over the years Anna Lacey has celebrated her Nov. 28 birthday on Thanksgiving Day many times. This year, however, is extra special.

Mrs. Lacey is 101 years old today. "My birthday never changes, it's just Thanksgiving Day that does," she said this week with a grin. Mrs. Lacey lived in her own home in Albany until about a year ago when she moved into the Men-nonite Home.

She is able to do many things on her own, according to Judy Gott, a registered nurse and the residential care manager at Mennonite Home. And although her eyesight is failing, Mrs. Lacey is able to handle her own correspondence, take care of her own banking and pay her own bills, Gott said. Lacey, who has a daughter, Peggy Ventrella of Tangent, and three grandsons, has been a lifelong homemaker who especially enjoyed quilting and raising flowers. She and her husband, Albert Lacey, moved to Albany in 1940 to escape the Kansas dust storms.

"We lost our livestock everything," she said. They had friends who lived out in Albany, Lacey said, and they decided to move out with a brother-in-law and his wife. Albert, who worked as a fireman at the former Linn Plywood, died in 1958. Mrs. Lacey was bom Nov.

28, 1895, in northwest Kansas near the Nebraska line. She and Albert were married in 1913 and later farmed in western Kansas, growing wheat, corn and livestock feed. She says she particularly remembers all the years she was able to go outside in Kansas and look at the stars that filled the night sky. 'You can't do that much out here," she said. She also remembers well the Kansas dust storms and how they Thanksgiving Dinner TODAY Signs of Victory Albany Minion' free Thanksgiving dinner will be from noon to 2 p.m.

BOMB THREATS: Bomb threats forced the evacuation Wednesday of Scio High School and Santiam High School in Mill City.

Both calls were unfounded and there was no mention on a Linn County Sheriffs report if the two were related. The first call was made to Scio High School at 7:37 a.m. Employees evacuated the school and sheriffs deputies searched the school. Nothing was found. Students and staff returned to class about an hour later.
