C. Yates Co. 'a store in the Ledger building an unusually gay look this week. It is the firm's thirteenth anni versary. "Yes," said a representative of the firm, "this is our thirteenth birthday, and they nave been tmrteen on gut and prosperous years.

We might say we were born in pros penty, as our business was a grand success from the day of its birth. We are a Cen tennial firm, making our advent in that memorable year that gave Philadelphia so many new enterprises. cause of our success is as apparent as tne success itseit. Xhere was an abund ance of good clothing in Philadelphia before we opened, but it was clumsily made and was lacKing styie ana taste. We saw an opening for ready made clothing of a high graae mat would iacK nothing ot the style, taste and finish ot custom tailoring, and which could be sold at prices far below the high prices asked by merchant tailors.

Style and lit, you know, are matters of judgment and taste, and add nothing to the cost of garments; hence the essence of our success is a superior grade of clothing at a moderate price. "Our clothing is all made in our own factory and carefully supervised from the time the cloth leaves the loom until it reaches the backs of our customers. None but the best workmen are employed and, demanding good work, we pay good prices for it. Economy, not parsimony, is our rule with our work, knowing well that poor wages mean poor work. The firm manufactures exclusively for its own retail trade.

This is a great advantage, as it enables us to adapt our styles and materials to the taste and needs of our customers, much better than if we were jobbers and made for the country at large." During the month of September, 1886, Mrs. Frances Mr. Pur cell, who at that time was a resident of Wilkes Barre, was at tacked with a severe cold, which was fol lowed by hoarseness and catarrh, this con dition steadib advancing until she suffered the greatest agony. The catarrh extended to the lungs ana she experienced great dim cultv in breathing; the throat became swol to sucu an extent that at times she could not swallow a particle of food or water. An attempt to do so pioduced such a terrible choking that her face would become black.

This condition continued until January, 1887, when she lost her voice. She could not speak above a whisper and at times she could not make a sound that could be under stood. She was treated by several physi cians without benefit, and her friends had given up all hope of her recovery. On the 12th of last October she was persuaded by friends to consult Dr. Strong, He examined her case and told her she could be cured, and like a drowning man who grasps at a straw she grasped at this, to her, the last hope for health.

She began at once to improve under Dr. Strong's treat ment, and in jnst two weeks from the first treatment she could speak in a loud voice, which Ehe could not do for mouths before. The catarrh, the difficult breathing, the ter rible choking all disappeared under the wonderful influence of StroDg's treatment, and to day she is free from her ter rible suffering. At the time Dr. Strong be gan to treat her she weighed 100 pounds and now she weighs 110 pounds and is increasing in.
