Mackie, had every reason to be proud of the audience that greeted his company and himself in the musical burlesque, "Grimes' Cellar Door," last evening. And the peo ple were not disappointed, for a more lauirhablc und entertaining show has not held the boards in this city this season. All the characters were excellently taken and the music was particularly good, so much so, in fact, that to particularize would be to show partiality. "Urimesey, me bov. and his company are sure ot a hearty welcome upon their next appearance.

Corn Supper at Hummelstown. To morrow evening the Ladies' Aid Society at Hummelstown will give a corn supper, which will be a novel entertainment. The ladies of the aid society have arranged a menu which encompasses every conceivable way wherein corn can be served in the most pleasing and tempting manner. We dare say the corn stalk fiddle will even have a place in the entertain ment. The public has been invited and the affair will prove a great success.

In the matter of the report of viewers in the opening of Evergreen street, from Market street to hompson avenue. Har risburg, the appeal of the estate of Helen Rosier having been withdrawn, the court directed judgement to be entered on the award ot the viewers of $1,100 to the Bos lcr estate. The viewers reported that there were no fences or buildings iniured by the opening ot the street.

Harris burir's delegates to the big Christian En deavor State Convention at Williamsport returned home thoroughly delighted with their treatment at the hands of the En deavorers and citizens generally of the Lumber City, and chock full of informa tion ahd pointers that will prove valuable to their home societies in the luture. A. reception will be tendered President George B. Stewart, of the State Society, in the Market Square Presbyterian church, of which he is the pastor, by the societies connected with the church this evening. Artesian Wells at Klverton.

Quite a number of successful artesian wells have been lately put down in River ton and vicinity. One of these wells has How of fifty gallons per minute. They are the work of L. O. Downin of the Hagerstown Artesian Well Drilling company, so that borough will have plenty pure spring water without cost to the citizens.

Mr. D. W. Cox has also put down a very successful well on his lot at Fort Washington, and George W. Bon bright is also now sinking an artisian well his lot, water being obtained at one hundred feet in JargC quantities, on Fort Washington.

Tollce Points. Frank Fox and Charles Radley, two dirty looking specimens of the tramp family, were given ten minutes to get out town this morning. Miss Lillian Perry, of Wilkes Barre, has been the guest of the Misses Bacon, of South Thirteenth street, for the past week. Mr. E. Heffelfinger has had a new coat of paint put on his beautiful home on Thirteenth street.

Mr. II. has also bad his property on Derry street nicely painted. The Golden Rod party, for the benefit of Thirteenth Street M. E.

church, held at the residence of Mrs. G. N. Bacon, was a grand success both financially and socially. The proceeds go toward paying for the new carpet.

B. De trick for $4,500. The Pennsylvania telephone company has been ordered by the Waynesboro council to remove their poles on Broad street in that place. The Frick works, Waynesboro, will shut down next week in order to take account of stock. Miss Matilda Chambersburg, is dead.

Henry Phillips, of Bridgeport, is lying very ill with consumption. Samuel Gulp, of near Carlisle, died vv ednesday. John Gross and Mary A. Baker, of Monroe township, were married Wednesday. Dogs killed a number of sheep owned by Alfred Loudon, of Silver Spring.

The U. B. church at Springville will be reopened Sunday next. David Cole, a former resident of South mountain, Adams county, died in Roanoke, aged 24. George A.
