moved into second place in career receiving yardage. Murphy was pleased with his team's execution of what he believes are the two most important aspects of the can talk about 100 things to your team during the preseason, but I only talked about two," he said. "BaD security and finishing off." At halftime, there was a conversation about last year's Cornell game, when Harvard led, 28-0, at intermission and lost, 29-28. That wasnt going to happen again," said Murphy. Harvard, minus three injured starters, exhibited its depth on both sides of the ball.

Defensive end Marc Laborsky had five unassisted tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery, and an interception; and running backs Nick Palazzo (21 rushes, 98 yards, 1 TD) and Rodney Thomas (17 carries, 61 yards) filled in admirably. Eleven of Thomas's carries were consecutive as the Crimson ran out the clock. Harvard's attack was crisp. On its first possession, Rose drove the Crimson 58 yards in nine plays, capping the drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Morris, who was wide open in the corner of the end zone. The next time the Crimson got the ball, Rose finished off a 61-yard drive by plunging over from the 1-yard line.

After a 24-yard field goal by Harvard's Robbie Wright, the Crimson recovered the ensuing kickoff at the Lafayette 17-yard line. Five players later, Rose dived over from a yard out, giving the Crimson a comfortable 24-0 lead. In the final minute of the half, Lafayette quarterback Marko Glavic (20 of 37, 255 yards, 1 TD) nearly scored from a yard out, but he fumbled before crossing the goal line. Pennsylvania shut out Lafayette a week ago.

And yesterday was Harvard's turn to push around the young (three freshmen made their debuts on the offensive line) Leopards. The Crimson, picked to finish second in the Ivy this year behind Penn, walloped Lafayette, 38-14, yesterday at Harvard Stadium, improving to 2-0, the third such start in the last five years for Harvard. However, if you ask Tavani to compare the two Ivy powers, all he says is, "Thaf going to be some game. If Penn is picked to win the Ivy, Harvard has to be a close second pick." Harvard coach Tim Murphy isn't concerned. Ask him about the upcoming schedule or the showdown with Penn, and he doesn't even know who his Crimson play the week after next By the way, if Cornell.

As for yesterday, Harvard scored on its first two possessions, leaving little doubt of the outcome. The 5,803 on hand saw Harvard quarterback Neil Rose (17 of 24, 261 yards, 2 TDs) puzzle the Leopards with his aerial artistry Fans also saw Rose's primary receiver, Carl Morris (9 catches, 123 yards, 2 TDs), who made a couple of spectacular catches, become only the fourth receiver in school history to catch 100 career passes. Sophomore Matt Cerne was on the receiving end of a 70-yard TD pass from Scott Treacy on Tufts' second possession, and Evan Zupancic uncorked a 60-yard punt return for a score midway through the second quarter. The other came in the third quarter, when Calvin Souder was denied on a fourth-down run up the middle. "Once they made the decision the first time, you're kind of stuck with it the second time," said Yale coach Jack Siedlecki. "I thought it would be a much higher-scoring game, the way the game started. The score stayed the same forever. We certainly stole one, no doubt about it.

Our defense kept hanging in and hanging in, and finally we did something offensively and we win the game." Yale went ahead, 7-0, on Reams's 11-yard touchdown reception with 13:06 left in the first quarter.
