ASSUMPTION, 27-17 HC doesn't allow Harvard to escape By Jim Greenidge GLOBE STAFF I Holy Cross liNlMi'l t-J early 14-0 lead and went on to edge Harvard, 27-25, in front of 7,406 spectators yesterday at Harvard Stadium. Harvard, which was playing its first game of the season, trailed, 14-10, at halftime and 20-18 midway through the third but could never catch the Crusaders (2-0). Harvard's last seven losses have been by a total of 22 points. Holy Cross is unbeaten after two games for the first time since 1991 and coach Dan Allen recorded his first win in five tries against the Crimson. Crusaders quarterback Brian Hall ran for 1 16 yards, the sophomore's third career game of 100 or more, and he scored a touchdown for the sixth straight game.

It was Harvard's first setback to a nonleague opponent in 24 years. The Crimson used to play Ivy League foe Columbia in the opener. "It doesn't really make any sense to start off with a nonleague game with both Columbia and our team having the same number of practices," said Harvard coach Tim Murphy. The most improvement there is is from the first game to the second." Allen was especially pleased his team's first two wins came on the road. "We played our hearts out and this gives us a huge boost," he said.

"Our defense backed us from time to time, playing a super game.
