Pf Six Six cheerleaders selected P'er chatter i h'l 'J fc left to right: Carta Hall, Brenda Pohl, Anita Scott, Mary Hopf, Angle Wirth. 9 Cheerleaders, Lisa Wickiser, Last Wednesday, October 17, a panel of 12 judges consisting of faculty, staff, and students chose six girls to represent WVC as cheerleaders. Those girls are: Mary Hopf, daughter of Clarence and Flora Hopf is from Poseyville, Indiana. Mary was a cheerleader for 3 years in high school and was on the WVC cheerleader squad last year. She is majoring in Child Care Services.

Says Mary," I am ready to go to Nationals this year, and I hope to see everyone at the games this year." Angie Wirth, daughter of Kenneth and Sarah Wirth, is from Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Angie was a cheerleader for 2 years in high school. She is taking Legal Secretarial and Courtreporting classes. Says Angie, "I am very honored to be a cheerleader for the Warriors and hope' it's a victorious year." Carla Hall, daughter of Tom and Vonnie Hail, is from Carmi, Illinois.

Carla was a cheerleader in high school for 4 years. She is majoring in Human Services. Says Carla, "I am very proud to be a Warrior Cheerleader this year, and hope we have a winning season." FOG HAT: Boogie Motel Bearsville) Foghat's first album since the release of "Stone Blue" in 1977 is a mixture of typical Foghat blues-rock fusion. Obviously the best cut is the one that was chosen as the album's single called "Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed," which wasn't even written by the band. Ml other, songs, however, were written by guitaristvocalist "Lonesome" Dave Peverett, who usually handled most of that chore, on past LP's.

Starting with side one, "Somebody's Been Sleeping in my Bed" is followed by "Third Time Lucky," which sounds like "It Hurts me, Too" from their last LP. Next is "Coming Down with Love." which is probably one of the two worst songs on the album. "Paradise Alley" rounds up side one and is an excellent song, combining Rod Price's slide bar and pedal steel guitars, to form sort of a country-Blue Grass-Rock Fusion. Kicking off side two is the title track, "Boogie It's a fairly decent song, but nothing fancy. It's mostly power chords, but it bounces along somewhat like "Fool For the City." Drummer Roger Earl's brother Colin is on the piano.

It sound's almost like a honky tonk bar in San Pedro. "Love in Motion" merits no mentioning whatsoever, as it is probably one of the weakest songs on "Boogie Motel." The last song is an excellent cut entitled "Nervous Release." It is definitely a good rocker, featuring Craig MacGregor on Fenderbass and "thunder drums" Roger Earl. "Boogie Motel" was produced by Foghat and band manager Tony Outeda. It is not a bad album overall, and a definite must for die-hard Foghat fans. rating.

FOREIGNER; Head Games (Atlantic) Mick Jones and company seem to think they can put out a carbon copy of their last album and get away with it. Head Games suffers from stupid lyrics and borrowed riffs from "Double Vision." The album kicks off side one with the single "Dirty White Boy," which recalls "Hot in its overused guitar riffs. It's a likeable song though, especially if you listen to it continuously for forty-eight hours. "Love and the Telephone" is next, and it's a fairly good rocker. Lou Gramm sounds a little bit too much like Bad Company's Paul Rodgers and Al Greenwood's keyboards sound pretty "Styxish" as he synthesizes his way into your cranium, while leader Mick Jones splits the nightime air with power chords from his triple-pickup, black Les Paul Deluxe.

There is one thing, though. The chord progressions sound almost identical to "Cold as Ice" from Foreigner, volume one. "Women" is the next cut, and it's for sure the dumbest song on the album. Check out these lyrics: "Women: Women behind bars. Women in fast cars, Women in distress, Women in no dress." Mick Jones.

Pretty silly eh? Mick Jones wrote this one and sings it, too. He sounds like Iggy Pop while the band sounds like the Cars. Throughout Foreigner's brief recording career, Mick Jones has been the guilding light of Foreigner, leading them to plus-platinum status. He writes and produces them in collaboration with Ian McDonald. Jones is constantly being done wrong as proved in another heartbreak revenge number entitled "I'll Get Even With You." Lou Gramm'i vocals definitely compliment the song and gives it more likeablilty than it deserves.

"Seventeen" finishes up the first side, combining a tasteless rhyme scheme for the lyrics, and old Montrose riffs which helps a bit. Side two starts off with the title cut, "Head Games." It's a decent track, but as before, it suffers from silly lyrics. Al Greenwood's keyboards are excellent a bit reminiscent of the1 song "Double Vision." Next up is "The Modern Day," showcasing Dennis Elliot's casual drum battering. (By the way, Dennis used to play with Mott the Hoople) "Novacaine Lips" Mick Jones sounds a little too monotone in his lead vocal chores. The song, however, is pretty rotten overall.

"Blinded by Science" is another "Starrider," or "Damage is slow 44 type anthem. It's not too bad except Foreigner choirlike harmonies seem out of place. "Do What You Like" is next and its written by Ian McDonald and Lou Gramm who also wrote the first album's "HeadKnocker. It's just okay. Last is "Rev on the Red and its (obviously) about race cars.

It not very good through and the vocals are atrocious. The album was co-produced by Mick Jones, and Ian McDonald, in collaboration with Roy Thomas Baker Queen, Cars, Journey). In my opinion, for the list price of $6.99, this long-overdue album from a better than average rock band, is simply less than average. Mick Taylor was lead guitarist for the Rolling Stones from 1969 to 1974. He added his distinctive touch to such Stones' classics as "Honky Tonk Women" and "It's Only Rock n' Roll." Now, after 5 years of silence, he has released his first solo album.

Taylor's album features Stones'-like riff with heavy melodic backing. However none of these songs would have fitted on a Rolling Stones album. These songs are more geared toward a 25 to 35 age group rather than a 15 to 25 age group. Taylor's songs sound more like Frampton than the Still, this album is one not to be missed by any serious rock fan. Taylor is a fine guitarist, a fine vocalist (he sounds strinkingly like Elton John), and a very good songwriter.

The only drawback to this album is that out of 8 songs, 4 are instrumental that sound alike. f. Lisa Wickiser, daughter-of Ron and Jane Wickiser, is from Allendale, Illinois.
