If the friend succeeds before Christmas In discovering a girl who can meet rather exating requirements he will receive 1,000. And if he has not succeeded at that time, then any person may earn the 11,000 by 'producing'a suitable bride. The man is Albert F.

Shore, treasurer and director of the Shore company, 557 West street. He ls 34 years old and a native of New York. He ls of. medium height, dark complexion and dark curly hair. He has nn engaging smile and he's bashful.

And, girls, he ls said to be quite wealthy. i Must Be 24 Years Old The girl must be 21 years old. In good health and have a fair education. She may be either blonde or brunette, though the, latter will have a preference In the 'finals; she may be buxum or petite, and It doesn't matter If she hasn't a cent. But here ls the catch: She must be of a temperament that will match Mr, Shore's, which means that she must be studious and thoughtful.

Social butterflies need not apply. The friend at present, the only middleman, ls George' A. Hofman. of 135 Broadway A reporter who talked Mr. Shore yesterday found plenty of evidence of the inventor's studious, thoughtful temperament.

His office was fL.ll of books of engineers' reports and scientific instruments, and Mr. Shore himself frequently -Inter-rupted his discussion of girls and matrimony to tell of his slentlflc pursuits and theories. Just at present he ls much Interested In a new branch of physiology; he believes that sleep! can be controlled that artificial sleep can be produced to meet the demands of Jaded twentieth century civilization. "Do you think that a wife would help you in your scientific research work?" the reporter asked. Inspire Thinking Man "I have always thought a sympathetic and congenial wife would greatly Inspire a thinking man In his he declared.

"If a man is i lucky enough to find a mate wha can and will take an active Interest In his work she can nnd will become a potential factor in the development of his latent qualities." "Has Mr, Hofman been able to do anything for yoi Mr. Shore smiled his engaging smile. "Well, no." he said. "Not alow: my I have looked for girls myself. I used to attend dances and I belonged to clijbs, but you don't discover girls you want to marry at dances." "Just what sort of a girl do you -want, Mr.

Shore?" he was asked. "Well" again Mr. Shore smiled his engaging smile and hesitated. "A studious, thoughtful girl?" It was suggested. Last for Three or Four Year "That's it, that's It, he said.

"What I was going to say wouldn't sound as well In print. You see, If a man has anything In him. If he's a thinker, he doesn't want a vtlrl who has social ambitions. It might be all right for three or four years, but he will get tired of It If he ls thinker. "A man in mv position sho-id select a mate whose mental traits are as similar as possible, and the 'more similarities she possesses along other lines the better.

The only exception I would make ls in the matter of age. I believe that a wife should be much younger than her husband. In my case, I should say 10 years younger." "Although Mr. Shore ls a thinker and requires a thinker for a wife, he does not demand a college graduate. 1 "I do not regard a college educa-.

tlon as absolutely essential, although education ls always precious, nnd the better the education the more preci- oi- It Is." Mr. Shore Is In the hands of his friend Hofman "Still." he said, "if I should get ft' letter that looked promising I would answer It" Given a man with the one virtue, loyalty, and a clever woman can make an archangel out of him, even though he may be possessed of all the seven deadly sins. The man who falls In love at first sight never knows what has struck him, and therefore mercifully escapes all tl.e agonizing slow torture of feeling himself 'sink, Inch by inch, Into the quilksands of matrimony..
