and Mrs. Hal Flora of Albany, to Lt. Donald Jay Hendrickson, United States army air force, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.

B. Hendrickson of Astoria, was made at a party for a 'group of the couple's friends last Saturday evening. The party was given at the Flora home. The news of the betrothal was revealed by those present pulling streamers attached to a flower replica of an airplane. No date has been set for the wedding.

Miss Flora attended Oregon State college and is a member of Pi Beta Phi social sorority "and Lt. Hendrickson was graduated from Oregon State last spring and is a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. Miss Hults Choses November Month For Nuptial Date Another Albany girl who is to be an early fall bride is Miss Lauretta Hultz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hults of 640 W.

Fourth whose parents announce that she is to become the bride of Harry Cole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cole, also of Albany. The wedding is planned for November. Both Miss Hultz and Mr.

Cole were graduated from Albany high school. Mr. Cole is employed by the Valley Mobil Service station. Library Friends Plan Open House A program of films and a library, open house was planned by the Friends' of the Library at the meeting Tuesday of last week, as Albany's contribution to the celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the American Library association. Two films were previewed by the club, "Know Your Library," which will be offered to the schools for their use, and "Books and People," a sound film depicting the operation of the Alabama county library and bookmobile plan.

It was decided to show this film to the public with another color film, "The New Oregon Trail," as a part of the program on October 4 at the library when open house will be held. Mrs. J. K. Weatherford, president of the library board will speak during the event.

Miss Elanor Davis, librarian, reported the success of the children's reading club conducted during the summer months by Mrs. Bellinger, the children's librarian. More than 80 children were issued "passports" for their book travels to United Nations lands and a large percentage finished their "tour" and were awarded maps with flags showing the nations they had studied. A brief outline of current plans for a Linn county library was given by Miss Davis, who predicted county-wide action this fall on the project. Mrs.

Weatherford reported that members of the Albany branch of the American Association of University Women were bringing library service to the General hospital and Willamette Osteopathic hospital during September. Mrs. Harvey Steen reported that the Junior Woman's club had taken books to the old people's homes during August and September. Circle Three of Sanctuary Society Meets Mrs. Edgar Frost, assisted by Mrs.

George Michele, was hostess to 20 members of circle three of St. Mary's Sanctuary society last Thursday evening at her home. Mrs. C. G.

Peterson and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillian Peterson, were guests for the evening. of the bazaar was held and Mrs. Ray Derrah presented an outline of the pre-school Sunday school held each Sunday morning. Refreshments were served at the close of the evening.

Exemplar Chapter Receives Programs Wednesday evening Oregon Xi Beta Exemplar chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met in the recreation lounge of the city hall with ten members answering roll call. The programs for the coming year were handed out by the program chairman during the business meeting. The members also sent "get well" cards to Mrs. Neal Craig, who underwent major surgery Tuesday at the Emanuel hospital in Portland. After the business meeting a social hour was enjoyed.

MR. AND MRS. THOMAS ABRAHAM were married in mid-September at the First Christian church in Salem. The bride was Miss Elaine Burt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

M. G. Burt of Salem and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Herman Abraham of near Albany.

The bride was presented George Burford and was attired in a white satin gown, made with net yoke with lace trim. Her fingertip veil was held in place by a crown of seed pearls. The marriage vows were repeated as the bridal party stood before the altar bearing four bouquets of gladioli and baskets of gladioli were placed on each side of the altar. Rieger was best man ushers were Hally Burford and Woodrow Burford. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Ware wore a street length dress of teal blue with seed pearl trim and a gardenia corsage.

The bridegroom's mother wore a pink suit and gardenia corsage. After the ceremony a reception was held at the priest's house, with more than 125 relatives and friends present. The rooms were decorated with baskets of gladoli of pastel shades. The gifts were in charge of Mrs. Lloyd Chrisman and Miss Bernice Burford had the guest book.

Burford poured the coffee and Mrs. A. G. Hass served the wedding, cake. Mr.

Rieger left on wedding trip to the Oregon beaches. For her -away costume the bride wore a blue and gray checked dressmaker type suit with navy blue accessories and an orchid corsage. After September 28 they will be at home at 324 Calapooia street, The bride was graduated from Albany high school and the bridegroom from the Stayton high school. The bridegroom's mother wore a green dress with green and black accessories and a red.

The meeting is to be held in the American Legion hall on the Pacific highway, with the burn club as hostess. Mrs. Mabel Mack of district chairman, will preside the meeting and Dr. Eleanor Gut-. over: man, state parliamentarian, will be: one of the discussion leaders "Leadership Techniques." Ruth Coates, Tillamook, chairman of education and vocations for the Oregon will speak on "Job Attitudes," and, Mrs.

Emily Riley, Portland, chairman of membership and blem, will speak on "Building Clubi Membership." Mrs. Cecilia Galey, Sweet Home, state president the Oregon Federation of Business and Professional Women will be the luncheon speaker, her subject will be "Equal' Rights Amendment and National Business Women's Week." The district conference will close the observance of National BPW week for Albany members. I Lions Auxiliary Meets for Dinner The first fall meeting of the Lions auxiliary was held Wednesday, September 26 at the home of Mrs. Helen Fehr, with Mrs. Nina McKeehan, Mrs.

Curtis Waggoner and Mrs. Betty Webber as assistant hostesses. Mrs. Lee Doerfler, Mrs. Waggoner and Mrs.

Virginia McNeal attended the Institute for the Blind forum held in Salem recently. A project of interest not only to the local auxiliary but to all the auxiliaries of the state. The report given by Mrs. Waggoner told what can be and what is being done to these handicapped children. Ways and means were discussed as to how best to further this worthwhile cause along.

Mrs. McKeehan told of the auxiliary's co-operation with the finance committee the T.B. community chest X-ray unit. Mrs. Doerfler, president, announced the following officers and committees: board of directors, Mrs.

Just Pals Enjoy Phillips Hospitality Mrs. Frank Phillips extended the hospitality of her home to the members of the "Just Pals" club Wednesday afternoon. The afternoon was opened by the serving of a dessert lunch at 1:30 o'clock with 11 members and two guests seated at the tables. The guests were Mrs. Blanche Roberts, Portland and Mrs.

J. M. Bennett. Bowls of asters formed the table decorations and were used about the rooms. During the business meeting, presided over by the president, Mrs.
