Next year, the MLS Cup will be played at RFK Stadium in Washington and the All-Star Game likely will return to Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The top four teams from each of the five-team conferences will qualify for the playoffs.

The regular season concludes Sept 22; the Eastern Conference playoffs will begin Sept. 24, the Western Conference playoffs the next day. The playoffs could conclude as late as Oct. 15. The Revolution suffered a setback in their fight for the final Eastern spot Wednesday night; they were relegated to last place by Cj-lumbus' 2-0 win over Los Angeles.

"Columbus looks to have turned it around," Revolution coach Frank Stapleton said. "But we have to concentrate on what we are doing. We have two games in hand, and if vie concentrate 100 percent and get the points from each game, someorje else, possibly New York, might get dragged into it." The Revolution trail New York New Jersey by three points but have played one more game than the Met-roStars. I "People in the league have said that our fan base is the most loyal and dedicated on a continuing basis," Kraft said. "Soccer is the future.

It brings in a heterogenous audience. You see the new Americans going to watch this sport." Most of the tickets will be distributed locally, Logan said. The finalists will be allocated about 2,500 tickets each. Logan said Joao Havelange, president of the Federation Internationale de Football Association, will attend the championship. This will be Havelange's first appearance at Foxboro Stadium since the World Cup two years ago.

The MLS has awarded three points for a victory, one point for a shootout victory and zero points for a shootout loss during the regular season. During the playoffs, which begin Sept. 24, victories in the shootout will be worth three points in a best-of-three series. Shootouts are conducted if a match ends in a tie.

This sets up a situation in which a team could reach the championship game without winning a playoff game in regulation time, and could encourage defensive tactics. If the championship game is tied after regulation time, it will be resolved by two 15-minute sudden-death overtime periods, then a shootout. Logan said the league is hoping to sell out the championship game, to be called MLS Cup '96, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Oct 20 at Foxboro Stadium. Tickets will be priced at $15, $25, $35 and $50, and seating for soccer will be expanded to 58,098 capacity for the contest between the winners of the Eastern and Western conference playoffs.

Pregame activities will include a clinic with MLS players at a Boston park, to be designated by Mayor Menino and Parks commissioner Justine Liff, who attended yesterday's press conference at Columbus Park in South Boston. There also will be a dedication of a modified monument on Boston Common to the first club in the hemisphere, Oneida FC. Revolution owner Bob Kraft said the championship game would be a reward for New England fans who have made the team third in MLS average attendance this season. ..99 310 ..30 115 (Canseco (Valentin rNaehring Cordero Frye 'Stanley O'Leaty with Sox reenwell ffraselman iTinsley Rodriguez Malave Manto withSox Cuyler Putt rWith Sox "Others Morals ..51 ..52 ..69 ..25 ..41 23 20 17 23 7 12 12 5 19 190 152 183 67 102 84 30 110 23 2 ..10 ..50 ...9 ....2 2 0 BATTING Kfit Ayi. 28 3B Hft SB CS BB SO 63 .342 26 4 17 2 0 0 21 70 118 .319 25 1 38 13 2 0 83 127 77 .308 21 1 28 0 3 1 60 74 52 .303 26 2 11 15 9 9 58 54 64 .296 15 0 17 11 2 1 45 58 34 .290 12 0 3 10 2 1 8 25 27 .279 15 1 4 8 9 4 44 38 69 .275 20 1 24 10 2 0 68 61 75 .270 23 5 15 5 2 1 39 69 38 .265 19 1 10 3 12 8 52 55 13 .252 7 0 3 2 4 3 19 20 23 .263 12 0 4 4 3 0 12 16 14 .257 7 1 3 2 4 2 10 34 14 .251 6 1 3 1 5 7 13 53 9 .239 1 0 1 3 0 0 4 8 17 .235 3 0 4 1 0 0 0 25 8 .214 6 1 3 4 0 1 12 18 4 .267 3 1 2 3 0 0 3 6 12 .200 1 2 2 3 7 3 13 19 1 .174 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 4 0 .000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 45 .254 18 4 7 33 13 7 43 80 731- .282 242 24 186 116 67 39 547 840 PITCHING IP ER BB SO HR S.
