Morris the speclaT election Tuesday voted to bond the town for $154,000 for the following purposes: i Twenty thousand dollars to complete the new pipe -line from Silver Lake and install filtration plant. Majority 176; $65,000 to construct an entirely new: system of street lines for commercial and fire purposes.

Majority 67; $69,000 for the construction of a sewer system. Majority 153. Two propositions were defeated which were for the purchase and extension of the Mills Water Company's system. The Hillage had already expended $6,000 for an option on this property and the vote Tuesday makes this amount the property of the Mills Co. The result 6f election will place Mt.

JAMESTOWN. Dec. 17. The ex. perisnce of Abraham Pershing of Oil City.

demonstrates that residents of Jamestown and Buffalo are within a few hours' ride of the big Same country, for Mr. Pershing this i week In the big: woods In McKean County, came across a trapped bear and had an exciting encounter, in which he was disfigured for life. Mr. Pershing had-a-camp on Kln-ni Creek, and last Sunday he started through the woods to visit a party of men working tn a chemical camp. He was accompanied by a dog.

Three miles from his camp he en-ountered a yearling bear with one of Its from legs caught In a bear-trap. The dog of course attacked the animal. Mr. Pershing ran to rescue his dog. He did not have any run, but he had a large b.

Anting knife. He plunged the knife it to the body of the bear three times before the animal turned his attention to him. Then to Mr. Pershing's surprise be was seised by one paw and the Dear's jaws closed down on one side of hie face. A large slab of flesh was torn from one cheek and he was otherwise injured.

(Fortunately one of the knife thrust proved fatal and Mr. Pershing got away and managed to return to his own camp. There he was found by his hunting partner, Harry McDowell of Reno-, Pa. A physician was called as soon as possible and the wounds dressed. Twenty-seven stitches were taken in Mr.

Pershing's face. He returned Tuesday to his home in Oil City, and be brought with him the skin of the bear and the -skin of a smaller bear killed previously. Mr. Pershing was one of a party of three who went bear hunting from Oil City. The others were Harry McDowell and Richard Buckley.

Buckley killed a bear weighing 160-pound and Is still hunting. McDowell is looking for his first bear. The hunting party made headquarters at Chapel Forks, which is five miles from Kinsua in Warren County, and only a short distance from Buffalo. Three yearling bears were recently run into a stone pill at Chapel Forks and killed. UFE CONVICT IS ED Special to The Buffalo TIMES.

LOCK PORT, Dec 17. Levi Smith, arrested yesterday at a Bowery lodging house in New York after having escaped from the State penitentiary at Columbus. last July was formerly a Lockportiao. It was shortly after he skipped fco-m here 80 years ago, being suspected of a robbery at the time, that he was convicted of the murder of a companion in Ohio and was sentenced for life. He has served IS years.

Smith was a trusty. One day he got a letter from Buffalo stating that his mother, Mrs. Richardson, was dying. He got away and went to her bedside. He disappeared before the funeral and was in Lookport for a time on afternoon as the police aft erward learned.

Detectives Costello of this city searched Buffalo several days for him. Richardson buried here. fhs lived here until a year or so ago and worked as a domestic. Tn an attempt to save an old woman named McCarthy from the flames of an upset lamp she was fatally burned. The son is about 40 years of age.
