TWENTY-TWO NEW CASTLE NEWS, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1977 Westminster seeks return to playoffs NEW Westminster Titans have a tough act to follow, but fortunately their own. The Titans were the best NAIA Division II football team in the country last year They defeated Texas Lutheran and the University of Redlands to achieve that distinction Now with 31 lettermen returning from that championship team, the Titans are ready to get their act together for the 1977 season. have the makings of another good said sixth year head coach Joe Fusco. we can successfully fill a few key positions on offense and defense, we could be there again when playoff time rolls Asked about the effects a championship season the previous year would put on his team, Fusco replied, feel teams will be more aware of us this season and might prepare a little more, but the players came back to camp in the best physical shape of any team since been here and I think they will be ready to meet the Some of the positions Fusco mentioned have been vacated through graduation. Gone are the likes of quarterback Jan Budai from Shenango High School, who was named the Outstanding Back in both playoff games last year.

Also gone are All-American Saftey Ed Goettle of Laurel, as well as last co-captain Mark Krivoski of Mohawk, wide receiver Jim Byrwa, linebackers David LoCicero and Ken Graif, and eor- nerback Dave Armahizer. lost some fine said Fusco, I feel we have some very capable people ready to step in and take their Some of the standouts Fusco has back from last squad include first team All-Americans Mark Humphrey, (6- foot-2, 204-pounds), a senior offensive guard from New Castle, and Frank Emanuele, (5-10, 204), a senior linebacker from Pittsburgh Also returning are senior All- District performers Paul (6-1, 238.) an offensive tackle from Trenton N.J.; Dave Hasson, (6-1, 190) a wide receiver from Franklin; and Dale 207), a defensive end from Springfield Y. The fullback spot should belong to junior Tom Jones (5-11, 199), from Laurel, also a starter last season. The offensive line should be a veteran one with the likes of All- American Humphrey, two-year starter Rice, All-District performer and last starting center Barry Pontius of Laurel (6-0, 178), all returning.

Fighting for the other guard position opposite Humphrey will be senior, letterman Paul Allwes (6-0, 229), who played tackle last season; senior Gary Prohaska (59, 220), who was injured and sat out last season; and junior letterman Jim James (6-1, 220). They include senior Tim Steenberg (6-1, 218), who was injured and missed all of last season, junior Mark Claire (6-2, 202) and sophomore Gary Wenstein (6-1, 210).

One of the inside linebacker spots will be held by All- American Emanuele, while the other spot will be a battle between junior Walt Sieminski (511, 191) and sophomores David Wargo, (5-11, 188) and Mike (5-9, 184) as well as freshmen Norris Ahmed from Neshannock High and Steve Banko from Shenango.
