Robert Poage, told agriculture department officials flatly Tuesday Texas is the only state which meets requirements for allocation of the 1960 floor sugar beet reserve acreage. Poage, vice chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, testified before department officials hearing requests for the allocations authorized by the 1962 Siugar act. Each year the department will assign quotas to produce up to 65,000 tons of sugar, enough to suppoit a processing plant, under a program to expand the domestic industry. The congressman did not mention by name in his testimony the Holly Sugar which reportedly has contracted to build a far ory at Hereford, Tex if growers in that area are assigned the 1964 reserve acreage. Nor did he name the community.

Poage called attention to the testimony of Agriculture Secretary Orville L. Freeman before the House committee. Freeman said the new acreage should be given to areas where no mill is now located, and where firm commitments have been made for financing a multi-million dollar factory Poage said. The Hereford-Dimmitt area in Texas would qualify under that yardstick. Poage later told UPI he understood the Red River Valley of the North might compete with Texas for the 1964 allocation Constitution Party Candidate Quits AUSTIN (UPI) Constitution Party candidate Roy R.
