Vmsf 0o THE HARLINGEN NATIONAL WESLACO In a candlelight ceremony in the First Baptist Church on the evening of Sept. 8, Miss Evelyn Joyce Russell became the bride oi Lester Gerry States. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reeves Russell of Weslaco.

The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lester States of Harwood. The Rev. Mr.

Ray Turner performed the double ring ceremony. The sanctuary was decorated with Woodwardia ferns and giant white mums in brass urns. In the background was a brass arch and two spiral candelabra holding white lighted candles to form a soft glow over the wedding party. Tiie pews for the members of the families were marked with brass cathedral floor candle sticks. Mrs.

A. B. McNeely, church organist, played traditional wedding processional and Mendelssohn's recessional, and accompanied Kenneth L. McCutcheon of McAllen who sang Love This Ring" and Lord's The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a floor-length gown of peau de soie following the Directors hnes which emphasized the high waist- ed bodice of English illusion ap- pliqued with pearl' embroidered Ah neon lace.

The neckline was outlined with scallops of lace as were the elbow length sleeves. The hour glass waistline extended into a full bell-shaped skirt. A sash, appliqued with pearl embroidered Aloneon lace, gave a train effect to the back. A tiered shoulder-length veil of silk illusion fell from a miniature crown of seed pearls. The bride carried a crescent bouquet of orchids and stephanotis, highlighted with pearls, that cascaded to the hemline of her gown.

Mrs. Bill P. Drawe, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Mridesmaids were Miss Cleta June Dawson of Progreso, Miss Karen Kay Rainey and Miss Norma Jcam Mauldin. The attendants wore identical street-length gowns of yellow silk chiffon.

The fitted bodices, laid with lace, featured a round neckline and cap sleeves. Their headpieces were yellow bandeaux with circlets of tulle. Each bridesmaid carried a colonial bouquet of roses and carnations in yellow and white. Alvin C. Lacy of Gonzales served as best man.

Gromsmen were Carl Embrcy of Hamilton; Michael Gibson of El Paso, frater- nity brother of the bridegroom: and Bill Knox of Harwood. Ushers were Richard Neal Russell, brother of the bride; Glenn Brady; Michael Blackwell; Richard Cortez; Jon Wiley and Larry Ennis. The mother of the bride wore a an Alencon lace bodice and silk dusfv rose gown fashioned with chiffon skirt. He accessories were of a matching shade and she wore a corsage of clustered eym- bidium orchids. The mother wore a gown of autumn brown lace with an overskirt of brown silk chiffon.

I for corsage was of yellow cymbidium orchids. The reception was held immediately following the wedding in the church fellowship hall. A bubbling fountain filled with floating white roses and carnations was placed by the bride's book. Here Miss Barbara Morten sen of Corpus Christi and Miss Nancy Blackwell alternated in registering the guests. The table, covered with a white silk corded cloth, was centered with an arrangement of white roses and Italian porcelain white angels holding candles.

The wedding cake, a five-tiered creation, was covered with sugar-spun rose.s and topped with a cluster of orchids. Miss Lucy Vaughan alternated with Mrs. Felipe Cortez in serving the cake. From a silver punch bow! fruit punch was served by Mrs, Weldon Blackwell and Mrs. Floyd Ennis.

An ecru Italian lace cloth covered the bridegroom's table that was centered with tropical fruits and foliage in a tiered arrangement.
