There will be no drill of the Governof 's I Troon this evening. The Choral Society of the Grace Method ist church will have a meeting this evening. John Boyce has been arrested on suspicion of having burglarized Lowengard's pawn shoo. Next Sunday morning a second class of probationers will be received into full mem bership at the Thirteenth Street Methodist church. During the excitement consequent upon the election the attendance at the Reily hose fair, at Shakespeare hall, has been good and the receipts encouraging.

Next Friday evening the most humorous entertainment of the season will be given at the Opera House. Bill Nye and James Whitcomb Kiley will be here together. The sale of scats for the Nye Riley enter tainment on November lGth will open at Markley's drug store on Monday morning at clock. It promises to be quite a tasnion able event. Paying Their Bets.

Last night Oliver Free, a Democrat, wheeled Joseph Redmond, a Republican, over a long route, extending from Maclay to Market. Charlie Sanderson, the young clerk in the A. P. tea store on Market street, is sad. He bet a hat on Cleveland's election, and Ibst the bet, so bo must buy a $3 hat for Mr.

Gramm. He Bays he will join the Re publican ranks after this. Saturday afternoon several funny wagers will be sottled. Oliver Earnest, a Demo cratic painter, will wheel Harry Kauffman, a Republican music teacher, from North and Third streets along the street car tracks to the P. R.

station. George G. Kennedy and F. M. Mather are voter in tho Socond precinct of the Sixth ward.

As a result ot the election Mather, Democrat, will be carried up and down Ridge avenue on a rail. Had Harrison been defeated Sergeant Kennedy would have had to ride the rail. Will Talk 170 Nlghta. Messrs. Bill Nye and J.

W. Riley are making ready to enter upon their campaign of 170 nights of eutertainnient. They will begin in I'onghkeepsie on November 12th, and on November 1 6th will be in Harrisburg, so that this city will catch them when fresh and get tho very cream of the talk. Mr. Nye has some irresistibly funny things to tell, and Mr.

Kiley will recite some of those beautiful poems of Ins that bring tears and laughter. The Opera Mouse will see a large crowd on that night, as everybody is anxious to hear this world famous pair. Seats will be on sale at Markley's Monday morning. Common Council Flnnnca Committee. A regular meeting of the Common Coun cil finance Committee was held last night.

An afllrmative recommendation was attached to tho ordinance to lay a water pipe in Ful ton street, from Hamilton to Kulkcr streets, and in Kelker street, from Third to Sixth streets. An application of John H. Harper for license as a plumber, accompanied by a bond, was approved. The annual appropri ation ordinance was under consideration and was materially amended. It was decided to place $500 in the ordinance to cover the ex pense of relaying the water pipe on State street, under Paxton creek.

Patrick Ford to Uovornor Beaver. Daring the campaign Governor Beaver made a stirring speech in Brooklyn in which be dwelt upon tne patriotic side of the tariff question. To day he received the following dispatch from Patrick lord, editor of the Irish World: "LtOt us exchange congratulations over our great victory. Coimntaaion In Lunacy. Messrs. Paul A. Hartman. M.

W. C. Detweilor and David R. Elder have been ap pointed a commission to inquire into the mental condition of Charles A. Crone and John Loidundaur, who are now confined in the county jaiL Crone is said to have attempted suicide yesterday by hanging, but was prevented from accomplishing his purpose by the jail officials.

Street Railway Improvements. The siding of tho City Passenger railway 1 on Vino street, near Second, is being removed to a point on Second, above Vine. The company will also commence work at once on the relaying of the ihird street track, which is in a wretched condition. The talk of paving Third street has delayed the work. A Worthy Man in Distress.

Mr. Jacob Babb, who resides at No. 1704 North Fifth street, is seriously ill and not expected to recover. His wife is blind. They are in great need of help, financial and otherwise.

Mr. Babb is one of our oldest citizens. John W. Rlfe's majority. John W.

Rife, of Dauphin, has 335 majority in Perry county for Congress. His majority in Lebanon is 2, 529 and in Dauphin the vote will swell his majority in the district to about 6,000. Woman's Work. A Compliment from the Interior. Mr. George McCnrdv. local editor of the LewiHtown Free Press, was in the city on Saturday evening and saw the big Republican parade. Among other things in the Press he says: "There were many finely uniformed and drilled clubs in line, but the Harrison Tnvineibles.

To them it seemed as though cheering and hand clapping was general all along the line. In drill they surpass many old soldier companies and in appearance they have no equal. married Two Years Ago. The many friends and acquaintances of Miss Mary Clark Koss, daughter of Mr. John Ross, of Market square, will be sur prised to learn that she was married two i I years ago, at Brooklyn, N. Y. Her husband is Mr.

U. U. Horton. who is now at Hot Springs, Arkansas. The wedding was only known to Mrs.

Horton 's sister and one or two others. Mr. Horton is a son of the mil lionaire broker of New York city and spent several months in this city about two years ago. Mrs. Horton last night to join her husband at Hot Springs.

Teachers1 Institute Next Week. County Superintendent McNeal is an ac tive worker in the cause of education. He is making arrangements for the teachers' institute next week. The sessions will begin at the court house on Monday. A number of competent instructors have been engaged for the week.

The evening lectures will be as follows: Monday, William Blaikie, "How to Grow Strong;" Tuesday, Hon. Albion W. Tourgee, "Give Us a Rest:" Wednes day, Miss Anna Dickinson, "Joan of Arc;" Thursday, Hon. R. G.

Horr, "The Labor iToblem. Fatal Fall from a Locomotive. On Wednesday night William Sloat, a passenger fireman on the Middle division of the railroad, fell through a culvert near Newport and sustained internal injuries which resulted in his death two hours later. He stepped from the engine under the impression that he was on the track and went through the culvert, a distance of twenty five feet. He was assisted to the train, but died at his home on Dauphin street, this city, shortly after being carried into the house.

He leaves a widow and two children. Funeral of Airs. J. J. Dull.

The luneral of Mrs. J. J. Dull took place this noon from the residence of her husband, Front aud Pine. Rev.

Geo. S. Chambers, D. conducted the services, which were very impressive. The remains were placed in the family burial vault at the Harrisburg cemetery.

The pall bearers were James Boyd, Prof. Jacob Jr. beiler, John B. Cox, Jacob C. Bomberger, James McCormick and Hon.

John W. Simonton. Receiving the Returns on the Hill. The different counties have commenced to send the official returns of Tuesday's election to tho State Department. The first sheets to arrjve were those from Snyder county, with Fulton as a close second.

Chief Clerk Gearhart will have his hands full during the next week getting the long columns of figures into shape. liote of New Hats. About every other man one met on the street this morning carried a hat box and wore a smile on his face. Daily Press: "One of the largest audiences of the season greeted Charles L. Davis and his excellent company at the Opera House last evening.

Mr. Davis' new comedy drama, entitled 'One of the Old Stock, was presented in a very acceptable manner.
