A ruling by the Kansas attorney general that only 21 days of residency in the state is required in order to vote is not expected to cause an influx of new voters in Saline county. Atty. Gen. Vern Miller's opinion holds invalid the Kansas constitutional requirement of 6 months residence in the state and 30 days in a precinct. R.

L. Armstrong, Saline county clerk, said several persons who attempted to register to vote and who had been turned down because of the residency requirement probably would be affected by the ruling. Persons who were ruled not eligible to vote because of the residency requirement have received letters from the county clerk's office, and will get letters or telephone calls about the new rule after the clerk's office receives instructions from the secretary of state. Armstrong said persons in his office should be able to keep pace with registrations until the books close July 11. He has 2 clerks working full-time on registration and election preparations.
