Page 2 IRVING DAILY NEWS Tue day, August 3,1971 Formal opening set Wednesday morning The all-new Irving Mall, a 750.000 square foot shopping area, will be formally opened at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a giant ribbon-cutting ceremony. Dallas County's newest re- gional center, serving thousands in Irving and the surrounding areas. The center is jocated at the intersection of Highway 183 and Beltline Road in Irving. Managers of new stores in the mall, as well as represen- tatives of the developer, local community leaders of Irving will participate in the ceremony- The multi-million dollar shopping center has five main trances, and is surrounded by parking areas equipped to handle more than 4.000 cars.

The entire center features a contemporary design, with the interior highlighted by planting areas, bright colors and a cheerful atmosphere. The Mall is described by officials of the center as a state of total expression. Gordon Sie- bek Associates of Dallas are the architects for Irving Mall. The center will be made up of some 75 stores, including three major department stores, Sears Roebuck, J.C. Penney and Stores vary in size and decor, and are ranged along an enclosed air-conditioned mall.

Approximately 48 stores will open Wednesday with the remainder scheduled to open later. Stores to be located in Irving Mall include Bond's, Linz Jewelry, Bresslers 33 Flavors of Ice Cream, Butler's Shoes, Casual Corner, Chess King, The Photographer, Colbert-Volk, Jewelers, Cullum Boren Ellen's Shop, Fabrics II, Qeros Coney Island, Fifth Avenue Books, Fifth Avenue Cards, Flagg Foxmoor, of Hollywood, Helen Gallagher Gifts, Gallenkamp's Shoes, General Nutrition Center, Jewelry, The Berry Tree, Em- bassey Fabrics, Judi Lesh. Kinney Shoes, Mall Cinema, Margo's LaMode, Mary Jane Shoes, Double Up. My Maternity Shop, National Shirt Shop. Nettleton's Orange Bowl, Orange Julius, Orleans Leather, Parklane Hoisery, The Sun Penney's cafeteria, Card Shop.

Mall executives named Supervision public relations leasing Irving Mall, the new multimillion dollar regional shopping center opening Wednesday at SH183 and Beltline Road, was developed by Melvin Simon Associates of Indianapolis. Inc. Land negotiations for the mall were handled by Sid Uberman.

Fort Worth realtor who also was exclusive leasing agent for the entire center. Uberman, who has been responsible for many large real estate transactions in the Southwest, specializes in shopping center development and nationwide leasing. His activities have covered 150 cities in 24 states, as well as several foreign countries. Gallen kamp Shoe stores Gallenkamp family shoe stores, which originated on the fashion-conscious West Coast, will open its newest store August 4 in Irving Mall, Frank Grady. Gallenkamp regional manager, announced today.

The Irving Mall store will be the first Gallenkamp store in Irving. Gallenkamp is a division of SCOA Industries one of the country's top- footwear retailers. Gallenkamp, long a footwear fashion-leader, specializes in high-styled youthful family shoes at moderate prices. Ralph Boll is district manager for the Texas area. The Irving Gallenkamp store is among the first in the state of Texas to be constructed entirely according to the look" design and layout adopted by Gallenkamp for use throughout the chain, Grady said.

"The store design includes many colorful innovations in footwear display and merchandising, boasts a youthful flair, yet retains 'time-proven' features which assure shopping ease and comfort for the entire family. Grady explained. selected the Irving Mall for its initial Irving store after after careful study of a number of sites. We are delighted to be part of the Irving Mall, whose planners have the same modern, yet realistic point of view as does Grady concluded. Founded in Ohio in 1920, SCOA now operates nearly 500 company-owned Gallenkamp and Schiff family shoe stores, and more than 300 leased footwear departments in both conventional and discount department stores in 45 states and in Canada.

Robert J. Boccaccio has been named manager for the Gallenkamp Irving Mall Store. Baccaccio joined SCOA in 1948 in a Fon du Lac, Wisconsin store. He was manager in Hurst when appointed to his Irving post. He, his wife, Virginia, and one son and two daughters presently reside in Euless.

KIRKE HONORED FERRYLAND, Nfld. (UPI A monument to English colonizer Sir David Kirke, first governor of Newfoundland, was dedicated here by representatives of the federal and provincial governments. Newfoundland's coat of arms is the one granted Kirke in 1637 when he legally supplanted the claim held by the descendants of Lord Baltimore, former proprietor of the colony of Avalon. The first governor later took up in Lord former house at Ferryland. about 50 miles south of St.

John's. MALL PUBLIC AFFAIRS DIRECTOR will be R. G. Dunlop of M.S. Management Associates, Inc.

of Indianapolis, Ind. Dunlop resides in Hurst and previously was a traveling consultant for M.S. Management Co. He was for merly advertising director of the Oak Cliff Tribune and promotion director of Wynnewood Village in Dallas. The public affairs director will be in charge of advertising promotions for the center, Simon's 20th mall.

RESIDENT MALL RVISER will be Bill Redding. Redding, who resides in Fort Worth, has traveled extensively and recently returned from Australia where he was chief engineer aboard a pipelaying barge. He has also worked with United States Antarctic Research in Antarctica and served as power production superintendent for air bases located at Nakhon Phanom in Thailand. The resident mall superviser has traveled extensively in South America and Africa where he was employed with various companies and to numerous other countries of the world. IRVING MALL OPENS Linda Presley, a hostess at Penney's Sun Garden restaurant, eyes the attractive landscaping around one of Irving Mali's four attractive en- trance ways.

The contemporary-designed mall is scheduled to open at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Irving Mall is 80th developed by company R. G. DUNLOPBILL REDDING SID UBERMAN Irving Mall, the new regional shopping center opening Wednesday in Irving, is one of 80 shopping centers developed by Melvin Simon Associates of Indianapolis, Ind.

The new facility located at Highway 183 and Beltline Road is the 20th enclosed mall center opened by Simon. Under guidance the company has developed more than 10 million square feet of retail shopping facilities. For the most part, these centers numbering more than 80 in 21 states, consist of completely enclosed, climate controlled malls. This offers both air- conditioning and heating for year round shopping ence. The malls are surrounded by attractively landscaped and well-lighted parking facilities.

North East Mall in Hurst, a million square foot center, is the most recent shopping facility opened by the Simon firm. Other projects under construction include the first two-story center to be built in the state of Arkansas, and will be located in North Little Rock. Nearly three million square feet of enclosed shopping malls are under construction. An additional 3.9 million square feet of retail showrooms and shops in enclosed malls are on the drawing board and are slated to open within the next three years.
