GROUND-BREAKING FOR ARMORY SET FOR THURSDAY AFTERNOON Completion Seen By December Ground- breaking ceremonies for Irving's $100,000 National Guard armory are planned for 1:30 PM the already-begun structure may be finished before the first of the year. The official party will include Major General Sidney Johnston, commander of the 49th Armoured Division; Col. Scott, his chief of staff; Col.

James A. Wilson, commander of the 156th tank battalion; Capt. A.T. Black, Company (the Irving unit) commander; Dr. Paul Laird, mayor; President Herbert Cooper of the Chamber of Commerce, County Judge Lew Sterrett, and County Commissioners Lynn Lawther and Denver Seale.

Erected on city-owned land leased to the National Guard for 99 years, the masonry armory will provide a large drill hall which also can be used for community functions, as well as offices, storage space, etc. Location is on the old Salvation Army campsite near the city baseball field. The proposed extension of O'Conner Road will run in front of the Armory. While asphalt topping for the O'Conner extension is very unliekly before spring, it is hoped that the road can be excavated, curb- and gutter installed and a gravel surface laid down by the time the armory is occupied.
