JWEDNESDAY, DECEMBER i7, 1947 12 Killed, 8 Hurt In Bomber Crash Army Officials Plan To Query Survivors; Blasts Wreck Plane TUCSON, Ariz., Dec. 11 (UP) — Ofliclals planned today to qucs- tlou eiglit soldiers who survived n crash in which 12 comrades died when tlicir B-29 bomber ploughed into the desert and exploded last night. The plane crashed a few minutes after it took oft from Davls-Man- than Army Air Field a few miles from here, The eijiht survivors were iu a hospital today. Trie Army declined to say how bndly thev were Injured until their next of'kin were no- lllied. Names of the dead and Injured were to be announced today. Army experts hoped the survivors would be able to tell what caused the big four-engined craft to falter ana crash. Witnesses said the plane had 'just taken oft and was making its first turn cut of the take-off pir.- tern when It suddenly plummeted to the ground and bur-sl into flumes. It struck the earth two miles Southwest of Ihe field. Two explosions lollowed. It nit InstauUy The 12 crewmen died almost Instantly. The explosions and intense heat prevented rescue workers from ap- proacliing close enough to attempt to save other crewmen.
