S. Government for 25 years without a single scratch against him? Pretty slick fellow eh? The government is so particular that when an employe makes a bobble his is called thereto and when several bobbles are made the employe is "bumped out." Hence a man who can work for this great U. S. America 25 long years without a bobble and retire on his own accord we say is an unusual man. Mr.

S. M. West is the one to whom we make special reference here. His father moved to Lamar county in 1853 and after remaining there 5 years he moved to a farm 7 miles west of Grapevine in Tarrant in 1858. On that farm west of Grapevine Uncle Sam West was born July 31, 1863.

West celebrated his 70th birthday. When he came to Bridgeport, saloons were running wide open in Decatur and other small towns. There were as many as 5 saloons in Bridgeport at one time after it was established in 1883. Bridgeport's only mine was in the valley near the present city park! in South Bridgeport and later one was opened in the center of Halsel St. (where the highway now) right in front where the First National Bank now stands.

Mr. West was married to Miss Laura E. Sullins of Bridgeport in 1887. To them 7 children were born. 3 girls and 1 son still Bridgeport Inder.
