THURSDAY, JULY 10, llJ30 YAKROW Miss Kirkpatrick is visiting with relatives in Vancouver. Captain K. Brown spent the week end with his family here. Mr. Lind was a Vancouver visitor for a few, days recently.

Miss Marr is spending her vacation with her parents in Vancouver. Mr. Moir of Vancouver paid a visit to friends at Yarrow on Sunday. Mr. Wm.

Carlnw of Vancouver is spending his vacation at his home here. Mr. and Mis. Holladay of Pasadena, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Ord. Mr. J. Knox is visiting with his 'daughter, Mrs. Cameron, at Hope.

Mrs. Siddall was a visitor to Vancouver recently. Mr. and Mrs. Watson of Vancouver were guests at the home of Mr.

Marshall Knox recently. Mr. and Mrs. W. M.

Haley and Miss Gwendolyn Haley of Vancou ver are spending the week at the home of Mrs. Siddall. Mr. and Mrs. McNeil and family, who have been staying with Mrs McNeil's grandparents, Mr.

and Mrs. Latty, have moved and are now residing in Chilliwack. The school closing this season took the i of a picnic at Cultus Lake. A merry time was spent in i bathing and boating, after whi the children dispersed amid and laughter for their summer vacation. The Yarrow school ended a very successful term's work when ah the pupils advanced into higher grades.

The honor rolls were given to Margaret Maitland for proficiency, James Porter for regularity and punctuality, Ada Manuel for deportment. The regular meeting of the Yar row Ladies' Aid was held at the home of Mrs. Brown on Wednesday. There will be no more meetings until September. A so.

hour was enjoyed, while tea wa served by the hostess, assisted bv Annetta Brown and Vivian Siddall. Mrs. Marshall Knox, a recent bride, was the guest of honor at delightful shower held at the home of Mrs. Siddall on Friday afternoon. Little Charlie Shaw presented the gifts in a prettily decorated box.

The hostess was assisted by Miss Mae Lauder, Vivian Siddall and Annetta Brown. Those present were, Mrs. Knox, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Lauder, Mrs.

W. Bacon, Vancouver, spent July 1st with Mrs. Rigden's brother, Mr. C. Manuell, at the home of Mrs.

James Mercer. Mrs. W. McGrath and son, Ben, accompanied by Miss Jean Mercer, motored to Vancouver to attend the graduation of Miss Eileen McGrath from St. Patrick's school.

They were accompanied on their return by Mrs. McNeil and Miss Pauline McNeil. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. S.

Gregory from July 1st till Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. E. Foster and three children, Longview, Mr. and Mrs.

Newport and daughters, Helen and Gertrude, and Miss Dolly Hudson, Vancouver. The latter three are remaining for the holidays. Members of the Ladies' Aid of the United church gathered at the home of Mrs. R. Chisholm on Saturday afternoon, when occasion was made to present Miss Jean Thompson, bride elect, with a set of ten sterling silver teaspoons.

J. W. McGillivray, who has been a patient in Chilliwack hospital, is staying for a time with his sister. Mrs. H.

E. Arnold, who have been residing in Auckland, New Zealand, for some years, returned recently and expect to locate here. Fred was the first in this district to offer his services to his country in the Great War and went overseas with the ex peditionary force, serving with the famous 7th Battalion. The exhibit of children's work at Sumas school on closing day, spon sored by the Cannor Women's Institute, was verv creditable, the number of entries being nearly I double of last year and the quality of work excellent. The judging was capably looked after by Mrs.

Wm. Bathgate, Mrs. W. Duster hoeft and Mrs. Launce Ker.

The exhibit was convened by Mrs. Arthur Zink, Mrs. D. E. Sturdevant and Mrs.

F. A. Collinson, other members looking after the tea. The prizes were contributed by the following: Hon. Wm.

Murray. The regular monthly meeting of the Atchelitz Women's Institute was held on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Roy Chadsey. Miss MacLeod gave a paper on the wont accomplished by the school nurse. There were twelve mem beis and one visitor present at the meeting.

Clements and Mrs. B. Gillis were joint hostesses on Friday evening, entertaining in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne McLaren of Kimberly.

Court whist and dancing were enjoyed throughout the evening. Receiving first awards were Mrs. B. Tope and Mr. Phil Tope, while the consolation prizes were won by Mrs.

H. Brown and Mr. Hugh Ferguson. Mr. W.

Stade supplied the music for the dance. An enjoyable time was spent at the garden party in the East Chilliwack hall on Thursday evening, July 3. Mrs. S. Edstrom's chil dren orchestra provided music throughout the evening, delighting every one present.

Miss S. Lytle of Sardis also rendered two very pleasing piano numbers. Presiding at the booths were: Ice cream. Mrs. S.

Annis, Mrs. P. Tope and Mrs. D. W.

McNair and Mrs. T. McBlain. The regular monthly meeting of the East Chilliwack Women's Institute was held Thursday afternoon, July 3, with the president in the chair. There were eighteen members and one visitor present.

Mrs. C. Brannick was appointed representative to the new library in Chilliwack. Arrangements were made to hold a garden party and flower show in the month of August. Mrs.

J. A. McKenzie and Mrs. C. Brannick were appointed to arrange the prize list.

H. Moore, has returned to Vernon, B. C. Mr. and Mrs.

A. II. Moore have received news of the birth of a son to their daughter. Mrs. Robert cnambers, of New Westminster.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Bellamy have returned to their home from Sev smith, where thev have been visiting with their sons for the past two months. Mrs.

Armstrong of Keremeos B.C., and Mrs. Hemphill of Vancouver visited with their sister, Mrs. C. M. Pearson, and Mr.

Pearson during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Parrott and family of Saskatchewan and Mr. John Parrott of New Westminster motored up on Sunday to visit Mr.

and Mrs. I. C. Lucas. Mrs.

Peter McBean, Miss Helen McBean, Mr. Ronald McBean, Dr. Hogan, Mr. Nairn, all of Vancouver, were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

R. J. McBean on Sunday. The Sunday school of St. Peter's church, Rosedale, in charge of i their superintendent, Mrs.

Brush, spent an enjoyable afternoon Sat urday picnicking in the grounds of St. John's hall. About forty chil dren and fifteen adults enjoyed sports ana games. Mrs. Coburn of Vancouver and Mr.

Mitchell of Winnipeg, have been recent guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Mc Cutcheon.

On Monday evening, MINISTER OF FINANCE tained at bridge in honor of their guests, when three tables were in play, the prizes being awarded to Mr. and Mrs. F. Kkkbush. The Henry Tryon Chapter of the I.

O. D. E. "donated a handsome framed picture of 1 lis Majesty the King to Sardis school in memory of Mrs. Chambers, late standard bearer to the chapter.

The ceremony took place on the morning of the school closing. Mrs. G. H. Raley, regent Municipal chapter, giving the assembled students an interesting talk, and Miss D.

Lucas, educational secretary, making the presentation, accompanied by the regent, Mrs. J. Thompson, and the standard bearer. Mr. and Mrs.

Chas. Newby entertained a number of friends at bridge on Thursday evening in honor of Mrs. A. Lyle, who has since left to reside in Winnipeg. The bridge prizes were won by Mrs.

E. H. Pearson and Dr. G. Newby.
