THE WEE COUNTY MESSENGER DECATUR, TEXAS PAGE October 31, 1974 Panthers blister Pirates Paradise added a crew of land-locked Pirates to its victims Friday as the Panthers mauled Perrin 70-0 in a District 7B south zone battle. The state-ranked Panthers are 3-0 for the season and 2-0 in league play, Perrin dropped to 1-2 in 7B tone action and 2-4-2 over-all. Friday at 8 p.m., the Panthers host Godley, 0-2 in district action following a 14-0 last minute loss to Chico, the other contender for the south title. Godley Is 1-6-1 for the year. Against Paradise the Pirates didn't stand a chance.

The Panthers led 29-0 after the first quarter and were ahead 42-0 at intermission. The Panthers scored their 70 points while ringing up 262 yards rushing and 168 yards passing. Perrin had 52 yards net rushing and put up eight passes. The Panthers Intercepted five of the Perrin aerials and prevented the others from being on target. Junior halfback Brett Gentry passed the mark by 57 steps Friday as he ground out 124 yards on 15 carries.

Gentry scored two touchdowns and made two extra points. David Horton also scored two touchdowns, tallied two extra points and shone on defense with three pass Interceptions. He punted only twice against the Pirates, but averaged 43.5 yards per boot. Scoring a touchdown each were Steve Hensley, Jimmy Gentry, David Stokes, Sam Cook, DavidCobb and quarterback Joel Dickinson, who completed 6 of 9 passes for 128 yards. Cobb scored his touchdown by recovering a teammate's fumble in the endzone.

Reserve quarterback Dike Read completed all three of his passes for 43 yards. Extra point specialist Dale Gayan scored on six of his and he also recovered two Pirate fumbles. Gary Gentry recovered a Perrin fumble and David Stokes picked off two Pirate passes, The Panthers made 24 first downs while allowing only four. Outstanding for the Dragons defensively were Jerry Fitzgerald, Mitchell Terrell and Alvin Boner. In other Dragon action, the Junior high grldders were shut out by Perrin 14-0. The Team's clash with Paradise was cancelled by rain.
