Hints from Heloise Friday, January 3, 1975 Salina Journal Colorful drawstring bags organize toys By Heloise Cruse Dear Heloise: This last Christmas I bought many put-together, take-apart educational toys for my 2 small children. To keep the pieces together and also handy for the children (and make them think it is easier to pick up the parts), I made several drawstring bags out of brightly colored scraps of material. I used leftover pieces of bias tape as drawstrings. Tie the strings to a large round plastic curtain ring and put some hooks in a convenient place for them. Put in an out-of-the-way place.

You'd be surprised how much better the toys get picked up. 1 My 1-year-old finds it fun just putting the parts in and out of the bag. I also made larger bags for blocks, etc. Mrs. Joy Polson Dear Heloise: My smart sister-in-law (who lives in a mobile home) thought of a compact way to store piles of Christmas gift boxes.

She slit each box at the corners (both tops and bottoms) and flattened them out. Two dozen boxes and tops take up only several inches space on one shelf. They are easily reconstructed with 19th, Topic: "Each Day Starts a New Club calendar SATURDAY Union Pacific Old Timers club 32 and auxiliary, 6:30 pm covered dish dinner, Lakewood lodge. CAP Gem Wise Jewelry. fashion facts, fictions NED ROSE MEMBER AMERICAN GEM SOCIETY THE TITLED JEWELER My knowledge of gemstones is what enables me to bring you these columns. But that know-how didn't arrive by osmosis as I arranged jewelry in the showcases. I studied hard. I pursued my knowledge through courses prescribed by the American Gem Society.

Gem wisdom was the main result. But almost as important to me is my title. I am an AGS Registered Jeweler. Each year, I have to take an exam given by AGS. Having successfully passed it, my title is reappointed.

Membership in this professional organization of jewelers is hard won. It is necessary for the jeweler to prove his geological knowledge every year, after the initial training in the identification and evaluation of diamonds and other precious gems. Strict ethical standards of business are also an important AGS membership requirement. The American Gem Society has member jewelers in every state but Alaska. There are AGS jewelers in Canada, too.

I am very proud to be a member. Since its inception in 1934. AGS has been a force working on behalf of the public to maintain high standards in the jewelry industry. Federal Trade Commission regulations and Better Business Bureau standards which affect the fine jeweler have been fostered by the Society for the protection of the consumer. The American Gem Society has helped to develop gemology as a science.

AGS jewelers were the first to use a binocular microscope to judge the interior structure of gems. Now gem labs are seen in many AGS member firms. The array of gemtesting instruments is something to see. On a personal level. the recognition of our firm by the American Gem Society gives you an extra mcasure of confidence.

That trust is impossible to gain in the casuallychosen firm. It is important that you consult Phil Rose Son first when buying fine jewelry. Phil Rose Son Ji we 108 North Santa Fe Serving Salina For Over 40 Years MEMBER AMERICAN GEM. SOCIETY snips of transparent adhesive tape. Clever? Mrs.

Heloise Dear Heloise: I have tried for quite some time to find the place to put my college boy's mail that wasn't important enough to forward to him. I came up with the idea of hanging a plastic bag on the inside of his closet door and dropping the mail in this. When he comes home, he can hardly wait to sit down and go through his bag and read the mail! No sweat and out of the way! K.L.H.

Dear Heloise: Storing my cutting board was always a problem until I decided to hang it. I centered a cup hook on one side of the board and now it can be hung on the Mr. and Mrs. Allan R. 'Pershing Dear Heloise: When overnight visitors come, there is always the problem of not enough towel racks and no proper place for our to hang their towel and wash I solved the problem by taking a plastic coat hanger for each and printing their name on an adhesive tag attached to the handle. I hang these on one end of the shower curtain bar. After bath lime they can be moved farther apart for easy drying and, on mixups, just hang their towel and wash cloth on the hanger and that's that. Mrs. Doris Daechsel Dear Heloise: Have you ever been on a diet and fell you just had to blow it? All you could think about was a chocolate sundae or soda, and you just couldn't stand it another minute? Well, this will help some.

Use one of those new diet chocolate- soft drinks that come in a can and add. ice cream. You'll think you are really splurging but it won't hurt hall so bad because the diet drink only has a couple of lories, so you only have the ice cream to worry about. It really seems to satisfy that ol' sweet tooth, until the next time you get the urge, that is! K.C. Letters to Heloise should be sent to her in care of King Feature Syndicate.
