"And there are families out there that want some answers. And we want some answers too." The bodies recovered so far were found along major roads in the New Bedford area between last July and March. Three other bodies were found off Route 140 in Freetown, and the eighth was found along Route 88 in Westport. Speaking with reporters yesterday afternoon in the wooded area where the unclothed remains were found, Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney John Cor-bett said there was a "possibility" the body was linked to the New Bedford killings. Corbett said the gender of the body and the cause of death would not be known until an autopsy is performed today at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford by pathologist James Weiner, an assistant state medical examiner.

Corbett said, however, that State Police Troopers Jose Gon-salves and Maryann Dill, lead investigators in the eight other homicides in Bristol County, saw a number of similarities while examining the scene yesterday. "The parallels are there," Corbett said. "It's certainly reasonable to make the assumption there is some connection between them." Highway is a link James Martin, spokesman for Pina, said a brief examination of the scene in Marion indicated there were "exact, numerous similarities" between the previously discovered bodies and yesterday's discovery. Corbett and State Police Sgt. Robert Kilpeck, commander of Plymouth County's homicide unit, both said the main similarity was that the body was found alongside a major highway.

Kilpeck also noted that the remains were bris off the sides of state highways in the New Bedford area. "God must have wanted us to find it today," Gomes said. Deborah Botelho, Sandra Botel-ho's 23-year-old sister, said she learned about the discovery through media reports. She said she had not been contacted by investigators. "You just go back to the wondering," she said.

"You just wait and see. It gets very frustrating sitting around waiting to hear if it's her or not." Kilpeck said State Police are planning to search further along I-195 in the Marion area, possibly with dogs. Before yesterday's discovery, Bristol County authorities had announced plans to resume a dog-aided search for more victims. She had been missing since July 1988. Gomes said the skeleton was lying on the ground in a fetal-like position. Gomes said one of the crew spotted what he intially believed was the skeleton of a deer or a large dog.

But Gomes then examined the skull more closely and recognized human features. He then called State Police. Discovery stirred sympathy "It was like someone just lay her there, face down," he said. "I wasn't scared. All I could think about was the poor person that was laying there, and the families that are waiting to hear.

That's what got me. There was nothing really to be scared about." The nonbinding resolution drew some bitter criticism on campus yesterday. One council member, senior Christopher Sturr, said he was planning to resign from the organization.
