Mr. Lars Peterson, of Hlntonburgh, whose house and store on the Richmond road were burned down recently, has almost completed the erection of a new building similar to the old one. Dr. Smith, the village health officer of Hlntonburgh, has reported to the council that the general health of the village Is unusually good. The municipality Is quite free from fever.

The annual Sunday school picnic of 6t. Matthias church, Hlntonburgh, was held on Thursday at Queen's Park, Ayl iner. About 200 children with thetr parents and friends attended the out ing, which proved very enjoyable. Mr. James Byers.

The report states that eeveral new dwellings and stores ha been erected during the year, while Improvements made in the village have caused a material Increase In the value of property. IMPROVIIfO STREETS. Mr. James Roy. the Hlntonburgh foreman of municipal works, has a force of men at work, laying a new sidewalk along the north aide of the Richmond road, from the Junction of Cedar street to the post office.

As that portion of the Richmond road la the main atreet of the Tillage, the new sidewalk will be a great Improvement. The council Intends filling In and grading the road to the level of the sidewalks on both a Idea A NEW PROCESS. Mr. H. N.

Topiey of the interior department, haa lately perfected a new process for coloring photographs. A number were exhibited and have bean pronounced by an EngHaa artist to be the beat photo colored work which he has aeen far the purpose for which It is intended, to illustrate geology and fruits. These pictures lose the photographic appearance, common to most color work, yet retaining all the detail and having the depth and brilliancy of oil and the brightness of water color. OPEN-AIR BAND CONCERT. Open-air band eencerts are popular In Ottawa.

Barrett's Independent band gave one last evening on Wellington ward market square, and pleased a large crowd who had assembled to hear the music It was the second of a series of free concerts to be given by this band. Among the Items on the programme a characteristic medley, "Murphy on Parade," and a fantasia, "La Paloma," were probably the best. Mr. H. Con-for In a piccolo solo received applause.

The music on the whole was enjoyable and well rendered.
