THE BOSTON GLOBE THURSDAY, MARCH 16, 1989 33 MBTA board OK's rebuilding of 9 stations on Blue Line underground bridge" through the construction zone. In other action yesterday, the MBTA board also approved: A previously described fare increase on subway and rapid transit lines, to take effect May 1 The start of work on a three-mile extension of the Franklin commuter rail line from Forge Park station to Bellingham. Officials said the project will cost more than $10 million. Reconstruction of nine miles of track on the Fitchburg commuter rail branch through Littleton at an estimated cost of $30 million. A plan to add subsidized express bus service to downtown Boston from Littleton and Acton.

The fare increase, announced in February and modified after public hearings earlier this month, will push the price of a token to 75 cents from the present 60 cents. The basic fare would apply at all stops on the Orange Line and Blue Line, all stops on the Red Line between Alewife and Wollas- By Jerry Ackerman Globe Staff A $150 million program to rebuild nine stations on the Blue Line rapid transit route in Boston and Revere won unanimous approval yesterday from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority board of directors. Jane F. Daly, the MBTA's interim general manager, described the project as the last major construction program affecting the authority's central system "the final phase of putting money back into the system." The project, lasting between 6 and 8 years, would include expanding the Aquarium Station to provide an entrance on the west side of the Central Artery, possible new entrances to the State Street station, and longer platforms at all stations. MBTA chairman Frederick P.

Salvucci, who is also the state secretary of transportation, said the Aquarium Station project might begin before reconstruction of the Central Artery and provide "an ton, and all underground portions of the Green Line. Proportionate fare hikes would occur at other rail transit stops in Quincy and Brookline. In Newton, riders boarding the Green Line at Riverside will pay $1.75, five cents less than had been previously proposed. But those getting off within Newton will receive coupons that can be used to pay half their next fare. The coupons will have no cash value.

As part of an agreement between Salvucci's office and the Conservation Law Foundation, which monitors the impact that MBTA fare increases have on traffic, the authority would offer a 10-rides-for-the-price-of-9 program, either by selling packages of tokens at a discount or issuing a 10-ride pass. Also, the authority agreed to aggressively market its monthly passes at current rates through May and June while revising a proposed new pass program that many observers found confusing. The loss occurred during two weeks last July. Ferris originally had sought six separate larceny complaints. The accusations subsequently were combined into the one complaint, which charges Lenane with conducting "a larcenous scheme." Lenane says the money is owed for tickets played at her store, but says she never was paid the fees. The tickets, she told lottery officials, were stblen by a former boy- friend who played them in her lottery machine without paying her. She sold the store last month and is unemployed.

"I want to work out some way of paying the lottery," Lenane said after yesterday's session. I'm trying to find a Job. If I get one, I'd be willing to have part of my pay turned over to help pay this money. She appeared at yesterday's hearing without a lawyer, but said she hopes to have a public defender appointed to represent her at the arraignment. The indictment was handed up Tuesday. "She's accused of double dipping," Rodman said. Bush left her job as a primary care nurse at BCH on Jan. 4, 1987, after complaining of a back injury she allegedly suffered while lifting a patient, according to Rodman. She received $320 a week in workers' compensation while she worked for Staff Builders, an employment agency that places nurses in temporary assignments, Rodman said.

A Suffolk County grand jury has indicted a former Boston City Hospital nurse who allegedly "double dipped" by collecting about $30,000 in workers' compensation from the city while working for a private employment agency. City officials were tipped off to the alleged two-year scheme when she returned to BCH late last year as a temporary worker employed by the agency.
