Smith 46, of 23 Kingcrest Randolph, who was found murdered yesterday in a Beverly culvert near the Danvers River, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Cartwright Funeral Home in Randolph. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Randolph.

Mr. Smith was the area service manager for General, Motors, in West wood. Medical examiner Dr. Herman B. Crush said that Smith died from a single bullet wound in the head.

He said that Smith was seen alive shortly after midnight Thursday morning in LowelL He went there on a trip according to his wife, the former Blanche Andrews. Mr. Smith was born in Worcester and had lived in Randolph for 23 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War IL Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Webster two daughters, Susan J. and Mrs.

Masked pair rob JYewton bank Two masked gunmen held up 11 employees and customers in the Community National Bank on Cypress street, Newton Centre, and got away with an undetermined amount of cash at 10:30 this morning. Yesterday morning Newton police said they foiled a planned bank robbery, i following an underworld tip, by arresting two armed suspects.

The robbers today wore red and blue ski masks and carried pistols. One hied six employes and five customers at bay while the other robber emptied cash drawers. They got away in a car parked outside. WO 111611 slain; spouse near death NEWTIELD, N.H. Local and State police, and the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office today were attempting to uncover a motive for the apparent murder of two elderly women and the attempted suicide of the husband of one of the victims. The lat ter is fighting for his life at Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital. Rockingham County Atty. Carleton Eldredge said that Mrs.

Eleanor Glass, 79, and her sister, Mrs. Alma Jones, 65, of Brentwood, a nurse, who was caring for Mrs. Glass, were found slain in the living room of the Glass' Main st. home last night. Mrs.

Glass', husband, Ross, 86, was lying unconscious near his wife's body. Eldredge said that Glass was removed to the Exeter Hospital and then transferred to the Massachusetts General. He said that the bullets were fired from a German made automatic weapon. Rockingham County Sheriff George Sampson said the shooting took place during the day. Glass' son, Ross found the victims.

DEHAVEN 463 SOUTH OF BAVO Memorial services for Dr. Lewis L. Dienes, 88, a research bacteriologist at Massachusetts General Hospital since 1930 and the discoverer of a strange disease-producing organism in man, will be held at 2 p.m. March 8 in First Parish Unitarian Church, Cambridge. Dr.

Dienes, who retired in 1952 but continued his research at MGH until 1970, died there yesterday. He discovered a mycoplasma which in some respects is halfway between a bacterium and a virus. It had been first observed in cattle in 1898 but it wasn't until 1937 that it was found in man. A native of Hungary who earned his medical degree at Budapest University, Dr. Dienes came to the United States in 1922 to head a laboratory for tuberculosis research in Ashville, N.C.
