CV MAqAziNEWEEkENd CL Diamond Rio, Hat Tryk debut tonight Thursday Jerry ICishbaugh Off the Record TO if several bassmen, we knew Joe was the man for the job as soon as he started warming up," Roby stated. In their promo picture, which accompanies this column, you'll notice the boys in the band are wearing spandex. But, Fredrix explained the reason why such big guys would want to wear the stretch clothes. "We wear spandex because in reality we're really triathletes." Diamond Rio will rock the stump tonight with the sounds of Bon Jovi, REO, Genesis and Sammy Hagar to name a few of the artists the band covers. The band's frontman is lead vocalist Gary Mrozinski and Ohio native Ron Abrahamsen is Rio's keyboardist and backing vocalist.

Diamond Rio's rhythm section is comprised of veteran bass player Bob Luksh and drummer Rick Blaski. Luksh and Blaski also chip in with backing vocals. The quintet also has another lead vocalist in Jody Pacropis, who also is Rio's lead guitarist So, within less than a week's time, you'll be able to whet your musical appetites with the emergence of Diamond Rio and Hat Tryk. KING'S EXTRA VAGANA In addition to tonight's debut of Diamond Rio, you also will have the option of attend- "I guess you can call it our El Grande formal debut," said lead guitaristvocalist Ace Fredrix (who took his stage name from a nifty combination of Ace Frehley and Jimi Hendrix). The band admitted it had a difficult time coming up with a name.

"Ace's hero is Pat Ward (the magician) and Dave likes hockey so we decided on Hat Tryk," Adams added. Before going any further it might be wise to introduce the other members of the band. Mark "Animal" Answinl is rhythm guitaristvocalist; Joe Valent handles bass and vocals and the band is rounded out by keyboardistvocalist Doc "P.L" Nutitas, who the band affectionately refers to as "One-Man Gang." The members of Hat Tryk said the band offers a good mix of songs ranging from heavy rock to classic rock. "We also cover some of the new songs that are out," Roby commented. Hat Try said its immediate goal is to be playing every weekend by the time June rolls around.

"We want people to come out and hear us and have a good time. We want to get them dancin'," said Adams, who the band affectionately refers to as Bobnoxious. When Hat Tryk was just getting off the ground, Dave, Bob and Ace admitted the hardest piece to find for the musical puzzle was the bass player. "After auditioning The debut performances of two area bands will take place within a span of six days. Diamond Rio will take the stage tonight (April 15) at the Glowing Stump in Exeter.

Six days later, Hat Tryk will kick off its 1988 Eviction Tour Thursday night (April 21 at Mainstreets in Edwards ville. Hat Tryk (maybe they should be called Double Ilat Tryk since there are six members) has dubbed its debut and ensuing performances as the Eviction Tour since the band has an affinity for losing practice sites. "Yeah, we had a hard time keeping a place to practice. It seemed every time we got comfortable, we'd be told our lease was up. I guess they didn't like the music," said Dave Roby, Ilat Tryk's drummer who was the original beatman for Route 66.

But, don't fret, ilat Tryk now seems to have a built-in practice site the sounds of Bon Jovi, Wtotesnake and Lover Boy now can be heard emanating from the family home of Bob Adams, the group's lead vocalist. Though Ilat Tryk was formed la May of '87, their formal debut is taking place on April 21 at Mainstreets. In all liklihood, the band probably had a difficult time getting the songs down since it always was being uprooted from practice locales. ing an interesting show to be staged in the King's auditorium in the college's administration building.
