The men were quickly caught, tried and sent to jail, and the Jewels were returned to their owner. When Parke-Bernet auctioned the famous "Krupp Diamond" off in 1968 after Vera's death, the ring made headlines once again when It was purchased by Richard Burton for his new bride, Elizabeth Taylor. The ranch Is now owned by the Nevada Division of State Parks, and guided tours throughout the historic area are conducted on Saturdays.

Sundays and holidays. A self-guided tour of the grounds of the main ranch house (be sure to look for the "hidden" bedroom!) is available every day, and a picnic area is open daily as well. A bite to eat Bonnie Springs Ranch is the next stop along the same desert highway and a great place to drop by for lunch or dinner. Bonnie and Al Levlnson moved their turkey farm business from California to the Nevada desert when they bought this place in 1952. Bonnie, a former professional ice skater who appeared in movies with Sonya Henie in the early '30s and '40s, began cooking meals for her many ranch hands as well as for her growing family.

"Word soon got around that you could get a good cup of coffee here, and people started dropping by for meals," Bonnie says. The Levin-sons decided to build a restaurant, and while Al began building the building, Bonnie made the furniture large, heavy oak tables and chairs laid the floor, built the bar and helped construct the mammoth circular fireplace that dominates the Interior of the low-lying structure.
