"And we kidded around about it being a robbery." Mrs. Reinman's first reaction was a mother's "So what" But when the girls urged her to take a look, Mrs. Reinman changed her tune. "The first check I looked at was for $27,500 and I couldn't believe my eyes." The chase was on.

Jody and Joan led Ross back to the lake and the three of them lugged the cumbersome bag up to the house, Inside were more checks plus canvas money bags, their locks intact but the canvas slit "It was all so suspicious," exclaimed Mrs. Reinman. "We called the police." After the police had come and left, Ross Reinman had a He took his 9-year-old brother Judd back to the lake and they found two more plastic' bags, both full of checks and slashed money bags. By Sunday the children were celebrities. And by Monday the word was out that the loot came from the Somerset robbery and that there was a reward for finding it Said Mrs.

The day was a week ago yesterday, and for the youngsters it was like a dream of cops and robbers hidden loot and a reward for finding it all come true. Now the youthful sleuths are celebrities, even heroes, and are still trying to adjust to their new-found fame. "They carry me around in school," explains 9-year-eld Judd Re inman.

"Everybody's really nice to you cuz they want all the money and stuff." Says Joan Gorham, 13: "The teacher mentioned what we did, and everybody laughed. Hut I don't feel famous. I was only helping." The youngsters might well feel famous. Joan Gorham, Judd, and Ross Reinman, 14, and Jody Rein-man, 13, found about $300,000 in checks stolen on Feb. 16 from an armored truck in Somerset, 45 miles to the south.

And the reward for finding the checks is possibly $10,000. Richard Casey is vice president of International Detective Inc. of Providence, R.L Commercial Union, International's insurance company, offered the reward. Casey said his company planned to pay $10,000 to checks. He said that as soon as all the checks are dried anyone who could lead them to the recovery of the checks.

He said that as soon as all the checks are dried out and processed he will then determine if the entire cache of missing checks have been found. If so, the youngsters will receive the full $10,000. If not, they will receive an award based on a percentage of the total value of the checks they recovered. With all that money, surely there's no shortage of ways to spend it "I don't know," said Ross Reinman. "I'll put it in tha bank.

I'll probably buy a motorcycle." 'Til put most of mine in the bank," said his sister Jody. "And I'll get a tape recorder and go shopping with Joan." For Jody and Joan, classmates at Woodward School here, the thriller began simply enough more than a week ago. The two were taking a walk around Sudbury reservoir near the Reinman's home, a walk they have taken many times without incident i But that day they spotted a large plastic bag sticking out of the water a few feet from shore. 846 COMMONWEALTH BOSTON. We were afraid to touch it with our hands." As it turned out, there was no reason to be afraid.

The bag contained hundreds of sodden checks. The children thought little of this until, on closer inspection, they noticed that the checks all had the same date, but different signatures. 3 See our ad in the Main News section of today's paper. The court isn't sponsoring the congressman's sermon, but it is making sure that he has a pulpit from which to speak. The court got involved when the church filed a suit after the New England Mutual Life Insurance Co. refused use of its auditorium at Clarendon street, Back Bay, for the services. In its suit, the church said it had used the hall for Sunday services from October 1968 to June 1973, when the hall was closed The church said it understood from company officials that the hall would be ready this month and went ahead with announcements that Fr.
