Registration since a year ago last August totals 191 men, during the same period in the previous year registration totaled 174, about ten per cent less than registration for the last twelve months. Late registration has been nominal for the Milam County area according to draft board officials. Total registration of eighteen year olds depends on the birth rate of males for any given year. In comparison with Milam County birth rate of males for some months in 1940, the indication is that i registration is below what it should be, taking into consideration possi- i ble removals and births outside the county. who fail to register when required to do so subject them- selves to penalties provided by Selective Service Law for failure to says August G.

Kunz, Chairman of the Milam County Board, young men required lo register will be doing themselves a favor if they will keep informed about Selective Service Regulations with regard to registration. We realize that most late registrations are due to ignorance of the law, but continued deliberate failure to register is something else. Any young man who just forgot to register or failed to register at the required time because he thought he did not have to will not be penalized if he will report to the local board office without further delay." Any man eighteen years of age born since Austust 30. 1922 and not on active duty with the Armed Forces must be registered with Selective Service.
