Al ima twn 111 All autiNGiJ IM Fit Klnch "a sort of breathing spell" in a "technical reaction following five days of erosion" adding that "Some rebound had to come." A highlight of the week was the saga of Curtiss- Wright, which has North American rights to the Wankel rotary engine. Within the past fortnight the issue had reached a record high of 59Vi on the strength of that engine. But from several sources came unfavorable comments on the Wankel and the Curtiss price took a plunge. Despite the fact it traded only briefly on Monday, did not trade on Tuesday, was bought and sold for only a few minutes on Wednesday, less than an hour on Thursday and only the latter half of Friday, it turned out to be the most active issue of the week, down 9'4 to 42 on a volume of 1,202,000 shares.

In the two final sessions it turned upward, gaining 5 on Thursday and point on Friday. The second most active issue was Pan American down IV to 14 with Braniff Airways in fourth place, off to 14, and Eastern Air Lines, in fifth place off 2 to 25. The third most active was Gensesco down 4 at 17Vi. It started to decline Tuesday after forecasting lower earnings for fiscal 1972. Big Board volume for the week was 69.34 million shares, compared with 55.27 million in the preceding week, which had four sessions.

JJ3 I NEW YORK CAP) The stock market made up on Friday a small portion of its losses during five consecutive trading days in which declining prices afflicted a wide range of stocks. For the week, the Dow Jones average of 30 industrials was down 15.80 points to 922.26. There was a drop of 21.07 in the first four days of the week and a gain of 5.27 on Friday. There had been a drop of 4.07 on the preceding Friday, so the total slide for the five bad sessions was 25.14. The declines were attributed to such things as uneasiness in Wall Street over the nomination of Sen.

George McGovern. Kenneth Ward of Reynolds Securities spoke of the "psychological impact" of the nomination as "changing the viewpoint of many investors." Another factor was what Charles M. Lewis of Treves Co. called the "disillusioning" lack of solid news from the peace talks in Paris, which resumed Thursday after a 10-week recess. The reasons for Friday's turn-around were mixed.

"The market was oversold," said Ronald Cooper of W.E. Hutton Co. He said people "should have noticed that overall economic statistics are awfully good" instead of "paying too much attention to the nomi-nation of Sen. George McGovern." Clyde Choate of Anna, permanent chairman of the delegation; state Sen. Daniel Pierce of Highland Park; and Frank Cicero, a Muskie delegate from Evanston. Singer was also expected to be a nominee. ames Wall of Elmhurst, head of the McGovern caucus in the Illinois group, said he tried for several hours Thursday to act as a mediator but Singer was not interested in a compromise. "Singer has the Chicago situation to deal with," he said, "while my prime concern is electing George McGovern in November.

Singer is very skillful and he will go a long way but right now the situation is impossible." Choate said, "Singer is now doing the same thing he challenged the Chicago delegates for doing, trying to railroad things." "I hoped this week would bring the Democratic party in Illinois to a solid position of being united," he added MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) -The unity in which the Illinois delegates regaled Wednesday night when they put Sen. George S. McGovern over the top in his quest for the party presidential nomination threatened to disintegrate early to- day. The focal point of the party battling was the election of a new national committeeman and committeewoman to replace James R.

Ronan of Chicago and Dorothy O'Brien of "DeKalb. Besides picking new committeemen, the delegates also must select four other persons to represent Illinois on the Democrats' new national com-mmittee which will provide for broader representation. The Chicago delegates led by William S. Singer want a big part of the say in picking delegates while the party regulars and backers of Sen. McGovern and Sen Edmund S.

Muskie, favor persons with a history of service to the party. The squabble of picking the committee representatives caused Thursday's caucus to adjourn in mid-afternoon. After talks with officials of the International and Icelandic chess federations, Fischer's lawyer, Paul Marshal, announced the American chal- Jenger had withdrawn his objection to the presence of movie cameras in the playing hall "so long as they don't blow his mind." Marshal also asked the officials to reconsider their deci sion to uphold the referee in declaring a forfeit because Fischer missed the second game of the 24-game series Thursday. Fischer boycotted the session, saying the cameras distracted him. Marshal said new evidence was being prepared that might stave off cancellation of the match.

He wouldn't say what the evidence was. Fischer's failure to turn up for his second encounter with the world champion gave Spassky a 2-0 lead. Spassy needs 12 points to retain the title, Fischer Mxk. Each game won counts a point. A draw is half a point.
