Queen Pageant Promoters Agree To Return Fees WASHINGTON (U I) -Sponsors of a "Miss U.S.A. Bicentennial Queen Pageant" in Pennsylvania have agreed to return $200 entry fees to senders after being accused of using false mail promotions, the Postal Service said Tuesday. Michael James, a 1950s recording star, and two suburban Pittsburgh women, Mrs. Diane C. Holmes, 45, and her daughter, Mrs.

Alison Kay Holmes, 22, agreed to stop using mail promotion, the service said. Under the agreement the Postal Service is inspecting their mail and returning entry applications and entry fees, it was announced. The Postal Service said this is the way it conducts official "mail stops" after making formal findings of mail abuse but in this case it is done by agreement with the pageant sponsors. The returned envelopes are being stamped "Out of Business," the Postal Service said. They were accused, among other charges, of falsely billing The younger Mrs.

Holmes as the "Pittsburgh-Allegheny County Bicentennial Queen," the Postal Service said. James, listed as producer for Diadem Enterprises, was accused of falsely claiming Diadem was a non-profit charity recognized by the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration, a federal agency. The Postal Service said James also falsely claimed Diadem had a contract with the Pennsylvania Bicentennial Commission to operate a beauty pageant. The Pittsburgh Press and the a i (Tenn.) Banner brought the promotion to the attention of postal inspectors after receiving mailed news releases from Diadem, the Postal service said. The Pittsburgh Press dis- coverd Alison Kay Holmes' title of "Pittsburgh-Allegheny County Bicentennial Queen" was fictitious, the Postal Service said.

The Nashville Banner sent inquiries to the Allegheny County Consumer Affairs Bureau after it received Diadem's news release, the Postal Service said. Land Transfers Dorothy May and John L. Wolfe to Dorothy May and John L. Wolfe, property in Washington Township for Si. Cynthia G.

Tennis-Ice Rink Project Pondered In Shannock Area Construction of a sunken tennis court which could be flooded in winter for use as an ice skating rink is being seriously considered by the board of directors of the Shannock Valley Recreation Association. The proposed project was one of several discussed at this month's meeting at the Rural Valley American Legion Home, Allen Boyer, chairman, said. In announcing a meeting for the general public to be held in the near future, Boyer noted the organization was formed to provide safe playgrounds and recreation areas for residents of the entire Shannock Valley, including, the communities of Yatesboro, Rural Valley, Sagamore, Nu Mine, Rose Valley and Margaret.

The Board had decided to drop baseball from the sports curriculum during its June 1975 meeting, due to what members considered a lack of interest within the community.

Members agreed to restudy the problem after approximately 15 citizens attended the meeting to present arguments against, and criticisms of their decision. Representing a committee formed to re-instate baseball as an interscholastic sport was Roy Gourley. Gourley told Board members that he and his committee were trying "to make an earnest and honest plea to reinstate baseball, so as not to deny those who wish to Gourley said that elimination of the sport because of a lack of interest was not a valid argument, due to the turnout last baseball season. The committee presented the School Board with a petition bearing over 1100 names in favor of reinstating the sport. There were less than one percent of those that the committee had asked, while circulating petitions, not in favor of the continuation of the sport, according to Gourley.

Dr. John Manion, superintendent of the district, evaluated the cost of continuing the program at "over Michael Dolmayer, a board member, remarked also that if the district were to continue the baseball program for boys, it would also have to offer an opportunity for girls, under new equal rights laws.
