UNH stopped a two-point conversion pass with two minutes left to preserve its fifth consecutive win and coach Bill Bowes' 100th career victory. Bowes, in his 16th year, owns a record of 100-57-3 and stands ninth on the all-time NCAA Division 1-AA lists in wins and winning percentage. UNH led, 21-7, midway through the third quarter. It was driving for another score when Lafayette's Dave McPhee wrestled the ball away from Ford and went 73 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was missed and UNH held a 21-13 margin.

Hopkins, a redshirt freshman, ran 18 times and scored Richmond's first touchdown on a 5-yard pass from Neuhoff. Neuhoff, who completed onlv 3 of 8 passes for 13 yards, iced the victory with a 7-yard scoring toss to T.J. Morgan with 3:20 left. Rob Courter kicked two field-goals for the Spiders, whose other touchdown came on a 22-yard interception return by linebacker Pat Brown.

Wesleyan bounced back on the ensuing klckoff when Tony Garver raced 82 yards for a score to pull within 14-6. WILLIAMS 29, TUFTS 15 Halfback Neal Chesley scored a pair of touchdowns as Williams topped Tufts. 29-15, in Williams-town.

The victory for the Ephmen was their second straight, hiking their record to 2-3, while the Jumbos dropped their third straight and fell to 2-3. Chesley broke off tackle on Williams' second play from scrimmage and dashed 43 yards for a score. In the next series, fullback Lars Hem scampered 34 yards for a touchdown. BATES 49, WPI 27 Senior tailback Chris Hickey scored six touchdowns, five rushing, and broke three school records to lead Bates to a 49-27 victory over Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Lewlston, Maine. Hickey set Bates marks for touchdowns and rushing yardage In a game, and for rushing yards in a career as the Bobcats rolled up 685 offensive yards, also a school record.

MIDDLEBURY 17, COLBY 14 9uarterDac' Hackett drove Middlebury 77 yards to a late fourth-quarter touchdown to give the Panthers a 17-14 victory over winless Colby in Watervllle, Maine. SPRING. 48, CORTLAND ST. 28 Senior quarterback Randy Turer rushed for a school-record 263 yards and three touchdowns and Springfield also set school records for yards rushing in a game and total offense while crushing Cortland State, 48-28, in Springfield.
