Nebraska Touchdown November 16,1975, Lincoln, Sunday Journal and Star 5D ISU Analyses Different On Outcome of OU-NU Dave Gtopie put the icing on the by ta Here he dives into the end zone for one of the touchdowns. By Randy York Okay, everyone, want to have the Nebraska- Oklahoma game psychoanalyzed? Lie down on the couch and listen to Iowa State quarterbacks Buddy Hardeman and Tom Mason, the psychiatrists. First up is Mason. "Nebraska's going to kick Oklahoma's rear end," he predicted. "If they don't, I'll really be disappointed.

Mason Predicts INU Win "I've played against both of them and if Nebraska's line gives Vince Ferragamo the protection it gave him against us today, Nebraska will rip them apart by two or three touchdowns," Mason said following the Cyclones' 52-0 loss to the Cornhuskers Saturday. "Oklahoma has been on the nigh road for too long," he added. "You can tell by the way they come out for pre-game warmups. "Cocky isn't even the word for it," according to Mason. "Outlandishly lackadaisical might fit.

They fumbled 13 times against us and were still cocky." Next up is Hardeman, who dislocated his thumb in the first quarter and was forced to the sidelines for the remainder of Saturday's game. Hardeman Likes OU "Oklahoma will be up for Nebraska. They always are," he said. "As for a prediction, I like OU But don't get me wrong. Nebraska's tough.

"But Oklahoma's got Joe Washington," Hardeman pointed out. "I know he hasn't done much this year. Bat, as far as I'm concerned, that's all the more reason to watch out." Earle Bruce, Iowa State's head coach, was a little more diplomatic in getting drawn into predicting the Husker-Sooner outcome But adding up his observations, it's clear which team he favors--Nebraska Best Coached Team "There's no doubt about it. Nebraska's the best we've played this season," Bruce said. "I'll tell you what.

They're the best coached football team I've seen for a long time, maybe the best I've ever seen. "They're so powerful and so physical." he observed "They do so many things well They pass, they run like the wind and they have that outstanding defense. "Those Black Shirts are just tremendous," Bruce said. "And Nebraska's offense? It's just devasting. Their line gives them all the time in the world to do what they want to do.

"When you can control the line of scrimmage, both offensively and defensively like Nebraska does, you've really done something. It speaks for itself," the Cyclone coach said. Warning From Bruce Even when Bruce thought Missouri had beaten Oklahoma Saturday, he warned "when Oklahoma gets it all together, look out. They have so much talent. "The Big Eight is about as strong this year as it's ever been," Bruce said.

"Look at Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Missouri. Even Oklahoma State KU? Oh golly, did I forget to include them'" Who would Bruce like to see win the Oklahoma-Nebraska showdown? "I'm for the Big Eight. Whatever's best for the conference," he said. Best For Conference Since Nebraska is the only one left with a shot at the national championship, wouldn't a Nebraska win be best for the conference? "It would have to be," Bruce said. "That would get them to the Orange Bowl unbeaten.

I'd enjoy watching them matched up against either Ohio State or Michigan Jim Wingender, Iowa State's senior halfback from Omaha Creighton Prep, wants and predicts a Nebraska win over Oklahoma at Norman next Saturday. "I wrote Tony Davis a letter over a week and a half ago because we're pretty close friends," Wingender said after rushing for 77 yards on 15 carries Consistent Offense "This was before Oklahoma lost to Kansas," he pointed out. "I told him then that I thought Nebraska would beat Oklahoma and I believe it now. "Today really convinced me how consistent Nebraska's offense is," Wingender offered. "They don't make stupid mistakes and they can move the ball well on the ground or in the air.

"That's what you need to beat a team like OU," he said "Nebraska is going to do it." Two members of Nebraska's split end corps take advantage of the opportunity to show some defensive technique on ISU punt returner Bill Larkin (31). Dave Shamblin (81) applies a Black Shirt-type bear hug while Chuck Malito (89) moves in to help on the tackle. Driving Dodie Reserve fullback Dodie Donnell (45) lowers his head and builds the momentum necessary to break the tackle of Lenzie Ferine (93). Jim Wiagender (34), an Omahan who played at Creighton Prep, found the going pretty tough against the rugged NU defense. Dave Butter- field (34) and Ray Phillips (80) are his tormentors on this play.

For the afternoon, Wingender was the Cyclones' top ball carrier.
