DR. WALTER TANNENBERG 1965 photo rr Wciner i amieiiiiem interests until his death of cancer Thursday at age 76. Although the ski area expanded in the 23 years since opening, it didn't make much money, according to Mr. O'Connell's son. Franklin, who said that didn't bother his father.

"When he went up there and saw those kids with their faces beet red from a run down the mountain, that was his reward," he said. Daniel O'Connell chairman of the board of O'Connell and Sons Construction one of the largest contracting companies in the state, was described by friends and relatives as a quiet, honest and intensely proud individual. "He is just one of the very difficult kind to replace because of the combination of his generosity and business acumen," said Holyoke Community College President David Bartley, former speaker of the state House of Representatives. In 1930, Mr. O'Connell took over the family contracting business his great grandfather began in 1879.

Under his direction, O'Connell and Sons built most of the buildings on the University of Massachusetts Campus at Amherst during the late 1960s and early 70s. The firm also built the new Mercy Hospital in Springfield and buildings for both Greenfield Community College and Holyoke Community College. Born and raised in Holyoke, Mr. O'Connell graduated from Holyoke High School with the class of 1924. He graduated from Worcester Academy and received a Bachelor of Science degree from MIT in 1929.

He received an honorary doctorate degree from St. Anselm's College in Manchester, N.H., in 1973 for his work with the elderly. Mr. O'Connell was a past president of Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and a past president of the New England Road Builders Assn. In 1971, he was named by then Gov.

John Volpe to the state's Industrial Advisory Council. He leaves his wife, Lillian (Morris); two sons, Raymond Untereiner Economist and historian; at 85 United Press International PASADENA, Calif. Raymond Untereiner, an economist, historian and consultant to the Atomic Energy Commission and teacher at Cal-tech for more than four decades, has died. He was 85. Mr.

Untereiner, a native of Redlands, suffered a stroke and died in a Pasadena hospital July 7. His death was not disclosed until Thursday Mr. Untereiner was teaching at an Illinois junior college In 1925 after taking economic and law degrees at Harvard when he met Caltech President Robert Millikan, who hired him on the spot. In his 42-year career at Caltech, Untereiner taught economics, history and law and coached the debate team. He served as a member of the California Public Utilities Commission and as chairman of the nuclear energy committee of the National Assn.

of Railroad and Utilities Commissioners. He was a member of the Pasadena School Board, Untereiner Is survived by his wife, Lucille, and two sons. Member of Tufts medical faculty Dr. Walter J. K.

Tannenberg, 51, of Boston, on staff of St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton and the New England Medical Center in Boston, died suddenly Tuesday in his home. A specialist in hematology. Dr. Tannenberg was on the clinical faculty of Tufts Medical Cen-: ter.

He had a private practice in Chestnut Hill. Dr. Robert Schwartz, on staff at New England Medical Center and a personal friend of Dr. Tannenberg's, said he was "greatly admired" by his patients and professional colleagues for his "skill and his compassion." Dr. Schwartz said he also was respected by his students at the medical center.

"He was very patient with all the students," Dr. Schwartz said. "He loved to explain things." Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Dr. Tannenberg moved to Batavla, N.Y., with his family in 1935. He moved to Boston in 1948.

He graduated from MIT in 1952 and then served as a captain in the US Air Force for two years. I Dr. Tannenberg graduated from Tufts Medical School in 1958. He Interned and comple ted his residency training at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

At Tufts, before he began his practice, Dr. Tannenberg did fundamental research of the, human immune system. He leaves his mother, Herta (Kleeberg), and? his brother. Dr. A.

Pruyne began working for the First National Bank in 1925 as a salesman. He retired In 1 965 as senior vice president. Born in Adams. N.Y., Mr. Pruyne graduated from Adams High School and later from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H.

He graduated from Amherst College in 1921 and was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Mr. Pruyne was a trustee of both Amherst College and Mount Holyoke College. He was a trustee of the Newton Savings Bank, the Ncw-ton-Wellesley Hospital and the Mass.

Eddie Foy actor, dancer and comedian Reuter LOS ANGELES Comedian and dancer Eddie Foy who toured the country in a comedy act called the Seven Little Foys, later the subject of a film, died yesterday at the age of 78, a hospital spokeswoman said. Mr.

Foy, who was admitted to the Motion Picture and Television Hospital in Los Angeles yesterday, died of cancer of the pancreas, the spokeswoman said. Members of his family were with him when he died, she said. Mr. Foy portrayed his famous comedian father. Eddie Foy, in at least four films, but in the film "The Seven Little Foys" the father was portrayed by Bob Hope.

Eddie Foy Jr. made his last film appearance in 1968 in "Thirty is a Dangerous Age, Cynthia," with British actress Suzy Kendall.
