(Rosenthal) Pike, of Cambridge, who wrote newspaper articles and appeared on television to tell what life was like while living with cancer, died of that disease Friday in Mt.

Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was 51 She also spoke to numerous social workers, health-care groups, patients and family members, stressing the aspects of living, rather than dying and death. Mrs. Pike videotaped material that was used at the Omega Hospice program in Somerville, and her interview on Channel 2, entitled, "Living with Cancer," was shown throughout the country. She was born in Newton and graduated from Provincetown High School and Wellesley College, where she majored in zoology.

She later did graduate work at Columbia University. Mrs. Pike' worked as a therapist at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C., and at the Perkins School for the Blind in Water-town. She also had worked as a research technician at Massachusetts General Hospital and at MIT. She sang eight years with the MIT Choral Society and in 1958 was with the group when it sang in Munich on that city's 800th anniversary.

She also toured with the group in London, Paris, Bonn and Berlin. She and her husband, Arthur L. Pike, also sang at Grace Episcopal Church in Newton, and with the choir of Christ Church in Cambridge. Although cancer altered their more elaborate plans, they did spend some time in 1978 in Munich where they sang with the cathedral choir of Frauenkirche. Mrs.

Pike lived for a number of years in Arlington and was active in Girl Scout work there. The increasing seriousness of her illness prevented her from completing graduate work as a research librarian, but she became an archivist at Christ Church and worked on transferring a number of 18th century documents to microfilm. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Sarah M. Robson of Tewksbury and Katherine S. Pike of Cambridge.

He died of heart attack Thursday on the Hawaiian island of Maui, where he was attending meetings of ShearsonAmerican Express. He was 72. Born in Cambridge, Mr. Rice was graduated with honors from Cambridge High and Latin School. He was graduated from Harvard College in 1931 and from Harvard Business School In 1933.

He then accepted a position with Dennison Manufacturing Co. in Framingham, Mass. and later Joined the Western Union in Boston. In 1936 he joined Spencer Trask a brokerage firm in New York City, and in 1943 he became a partner in that company. He served in that capacity until 1968, when he became senior vice president and In 1977 Spencer Trask Inc.

merged with the brokerage firm of Hornblower Weeks and Mr. Rice served as senior vice president and director of Hornblower, Weeks, Noyes Trask Inc. and later as senior vice president. Loeb Rhodes Hornblower, Shearson Loeb Rhodes and ShearsonAmerican Express Co. All were successors by merger.

Mr. Rice held a number of other corporate directorships and offices, including president and director of the Broadway Realty and director of Alrwick: Industries Superior Steel Corp.J Wickwire Spencer Steel Colonial Life Insurance Co. and the Strana-han Foil Co. Inc. At the time of his death, he was serving as director and treasurer of the Corporation of Yaddo, an artists' colony in Saratoga Springs.

Mr. Rice was a sports enthusi- ast and enjoyed skeet and trap shooting. He won many awards in competitions at the Sleepy Hollow Club and the Campfire Club in New York. He was a member of the Harvard Ctul of New York City, the Duquesnej Club of Pittsburgh, and the Minne-1 apolis Club. He had traveled through west-; ern Europe, Israel, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and a number of African and Asian coun' tries.

Mr. Rice leaves his wife, Lydia; (Sands); four sons, Donald of New York City, William of DuxburyV John of Albuquerque, and Anton H. Rice 3d of Cos Cob; and six grandchildren. Mary E. At college, she excelled in sports, especially baseball, 'and once pitched for a women's tearfy, that played a firefighter's team, Fenway Park.

Mrs. Perry did additional gradu-j ate work at the University of Dijqn, in Paris and qualified as a teacher of French and Latin. McDonough, who died at Massachusetts General Hospital Friday after a long illness.

He was 52. Born in South Boston, Mr. McDonough was a resident of Quincy at the time of his death. He joined the department on Jan. 18, 1961 and was assigned to Ladder Co.

15 on Boylston street, Back Bay. He retired from there earlier this year. Mr. McDonough served with the Army in 1946-1947. Mr.

McDonough was a member of the Society of St. Florian, Boston Firefighters-Local 718 of the AFL-CI0, and the Boston Firemen's Mutual Relief Assn. He also was a member of the Robert F. Ryan VFW Post No. 7604 in Dorchester.

He leaves his wife June (Doyle), three sons, Coleman V. Jr. and Ter-rance McDonough, and Michael Cox, all of Quincy: six brothers, Thomas F. of Braintree, a firefighter with the Fire Prevention Division of the Boston Fire Department, Michael of Dorchester, Fes-tus of Milton, and Robert, Peter Jane E. Lipson, 22 killed in car crash A 22-year-old Newton woman was killed in an automobile accident early yesterday morning when the car she was driving struck a tree.

Jane E. Lipson, of 234 Arnold Newton, was alone in the car when the accident occurred at 4 a.m. in front of 765 Dedham st. in Newton, according to Newton Police. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m.

Ohio Robert Chollar, chairman of the Charles Em Kettering Foundation board, of trustees and former vice president and director of National Cash ister, has died at the age of 67. Mr. Chollar, who died of cancer yesterday in the Kettering Medical Center, had retired as the foundation's chief executive officer July 1. He was named to the board in4 1956 and became chairman andv president of the foundatioa in 1971.

He also served on the board of overseers of Sloan-Kettering Inj" stitute for Cancer Research in New? York City. He served on the boards of trust-" ees of Sloan-Kettering, the Greater 1 Washington Educational Telecom' munications Assn. and the National Public Affairs Center for Television. He also served as a technical adviser to the secretary of the US Department of Commerce and as adviser to the federal government Soviet and China relations.
