McLean County News, Calhoun, Thursday, September 8, 1983-1 5 News from Poplar Grove-Stringtown News from Livermore by Mrs Ola Shocklee by Mrs. Coleman Davis At Poplar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church Bro. Paul Quertermous preached from John 6: 22-27. We were proud to have our visitors at church Sunday. Towers Chapel Methodist Church attendance for Sunday School was 55.

Bro. Gale Wetzel preached Sunday. Bro. Alfred Robbins is better and attended church. There will be a homecoming at Towers Chapel Methodist Church Sunday.

Every one is welcome. The singers will be the Telestials from Nashville. My granddaughter Lori Davis was a winner on the radio station in Madison-ville because her birthday was Sept. 3. Eunice Abrams' birthday is Sept.

10. Davis and attended church Sunday. Nell Brown, Sue Gossett, Debbie Dunn, Dorothy Thaxton, Lorene Austin, Beverly Magdalener, Nancy and John Pogue, Betty Devine and Scotty, and Jimmy visited Maggie Gossett recently. Mr. and Mrs.

Worth West had as their guests Labor Day weekend her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wilkins and their son and his wife and baby, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Wilkins and daughter Mindifrom Ozark, Ala.

On Sunday there was a family reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Clark. A special hello is sent to Mrs. Gladys Farmer in Indianapolis this week.

Until we meet Marie Cartwright's birthday is also on Sept. 10. Boyd Whitmer and Myrtle Kenney from Bremen visited Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Rickard and Uncle Luther.

Those who I visited last week were Juanita Ray, Moriel Arnold, Phyllis Davis, Mr. and Mrs. James Cartwright and Dorothy Thaxton. Mr. and Mrs.

Carol W. Rickard, Gail and Carol Ann had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Rickard and Uncle Luther. Mr.

and Mrs. Buck Duncan, Dale. Rhonda and Freddie and Mr. and Mrs. Coleman Davis all had dinner in Central City recently.

Rhonda and Freddie Duncan spent Saturday night with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Coleman and Mr. Curry have been sick for some time, and they enjoyed the short visit. They are always glad to have company.

I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend and especially a safe one. Get well wishes go to Gene Austin, formerly of Livermore. who had surgery at Parkview Hospital, Nashville last week. Gene is doing real well and will be returning home soon. Remember him in your prayers.

A benefit program for less fortunate children of Livermore will be held Sept. 17 at the National Guard Armory. Homemade ice cream and cake will be sold starting at 5 p.m. There will be a dance starting at 7 p.m. Music will bo furnished by a county music band.

The cost is $1 per person for all the ice cream and cake you can eat. Soft drinks and coffee are extra. All proceeds ill go to buy Christmas toys for children. Come out and help and enjoy the fellowship and food. For cash donations contact Mrs.

Don Noble, phone 278-282o. Thought for (he week: Have 1 been a neighbor recently to someone in need? A lour of the home was made and a time of fellowship enjoyed. The Woman's Club of Livermore will meet Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. in the home of Mrs.

Richard Edds, Hickory Hills. Public Affairs Chairman Amber Henton invited for the speaker of the evening Jim Youngquist, GRADD director to speak. All members and interested ones are urged to attend. The Boyken Reunion will be at Legion Park Sunday. A basket lunch will be served at noon and all families are urged to be present.

Prizes will be given to the one present with largest family. Chairman John J. Boyken, 9703 Noric Drive. Louisville or contact Mrs. Genene Caudle 278-2740.

Everyone has really enjoyed having Gerald and Frances Render spend the summer here in Livermore, and they enjoyed their new mobile home. The Renders left this week for their home in South Carolina. They plan to return soon for another visit. Mrs. Pricilla Rose of Rockport, Sarah Carmen and Ola Shocklee were in Owensboro Monday and went by to wish Mrs.

Joe Curry a happy birthday. She News from Rumsey News from Buel by Mrs. Zola Pearce Greetings and welcome to the new minister and family Revs. Fern McHenry and Barbara Alumbaugh who have just moved here from Linton, In. to pastor the Wesleyan Church on West 4th St.

in Livermore. They come to Livermore from the Wesleyan Conference in Indiana. Their services are on Sunday 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. You are urged to attend these services and support your new parsonage family.

Mrs. Louise Frazier who just recently visited her son Franklin Frazier in New York tells of her trip through the United Nations Building and the great museum, as well as many other points of interest. She had a very enjoyable visit with her son. The United Methodist women met in the new mobile home of Mr. and Mrs.

Gilbert Girvin September 1 for their regular meeting. The president, Mrs. Helen Willis, announced the Fall District meeting will be Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. in the Lewisport United Methodist Church.

She urged members to attend. Willis also mentioned the upcoming food sale on election day in November and told of some other projects beginning for the society. Mrs. Linda Johnson was program leader of the evening. She presented the challenge: "To Be Doers of the Faith," a very interesting and informative lesson.

After discussion and comments, Mrs. Martha Thomas closed the meeting with a prayer, and Mrs. Girvin served refreshments to 12 members. Sheila Dailey Mrs. Nola Scharber of Owensboro is enjoying her one week visit with Mrs.

Bessie Boatright. Gale Wetzel is visiting his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Wetzel for a week while conducting a revival at Towers Chapel Church. A special get well wish is sent to Gene Austin, who is a patient at Park View Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. Mr.

Austin is recuperating nicely after having surgery and should be home soon. Gordon and Ella McLaughlin enjoyed seeing Mrs. McLaughlin's aunt, Mrs. Nola Schaber of Owensboro, who visited them Friday afternoon. Please call 273-3449 if you have any news.

enjoyed being with his friends and playing checkers. Mrs. Frances Stewart came by Monday afternoon for a visit. She had been to Calhoun attending the Senior Citizens social and dinner. I received a nice letter from a good friend last Monday.

It was from Mrs. Camilla Condit. She formerly lived in Livermore but is living in West View, Ky. She was president of Oak Grove Home-makers when she lived at Livermore. Mrs.

Earl Goodwin hasn't been feeling up to par for a couple of days. 1 have been enjoying my sister, Martine Yockey and her husband Harry, for several days. 1 just hate to know they will be leaving for Dover, Ohio soon. A surprise social was given at my home on August 27 by Mr. and Mrs.

Larry Troutman and Mr. and Mrs. Steven Troutman in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yockey of Dover, Ohio, who are visiting relatives here.

Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Troutman and daughters Joy Beth, Stacy and Bobbie Jean, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Troutman and son Don, Mr.

and Mrs. Harry Yockey and Zola Pearce. Barbecued weiners and homemade ice cream were enjoyed. The nice shower of rain we experienced Sunday morning was very refreshing. The yards have begun to get a little green.
