fire here early this morning A blazing building near the ort Hood Enlisted Men's trailer park trapped five employes of the Hous ton Builders ireplace and Supply Company iremen were fighting the blaze before they knew the building was occupied Another employe of the company Edgar Lary told fire fighters that the back room of the building was occupied iremen worked with axes on the rear wall of the structure until' an opening large enough to admit a man was made In spite of flames smoke and falling timber Lary and firemen pulled the five trapped men to safety Robert Small of Centerville Miss was the '52 election Tar If it turns out to be the one he follows it will affect numerous slate races as well as the United States senate race and the political fortunes of a dozen public figures Governor Shivers so far has said he will run for an office next year and that after Jan 1 will indicate whether his choice is for rc clec tion as governor or a race against veteran Senator Tom Connally who is rescuers brought 28 bodies to the surface from the tun nels of the largest shaft coal mine Saturday and officials said that 80 to 82 men were killed in the explosion which rocked the mine riday The federal government mean while sent all available rescue equipment and mine inspectors to the scene As the night wore on rescue op erations speeded up Bodies were being brought up the shaft in the mine lift by six and eight man teams working in relays Rescuers said many of the bodies had to be dug from neneath rock falls in the darkened tunnels of the gas choked New Orient mine 535 feet below the little Waco girls have just learned how to laugh And the oldest one 3 year old Lynda Kay has learned not to hide from people The little girls were declared neglected by the district court about six months ago and turned over to the McLennan County Child Welfare Unit Miss Emeline Bryant supervisor picked out one of the extra kind couples on her foster home list and put the little girls in their
