By Walter Hayncs Globe Staff Ralph Polillio woke up yesterday -and realized he was nervous. He couldn't stomach the two cfigs he cooked for breakfast and had to settle for some shredded wheat. was sn nervous I couldn't eat. I usually have two eggs but today I was really hyper. I've never been that upset before a game," said Polillio, the human flea who accounted for 149 yards of Harvard's offense and scored two touchdowns in the second half in the Crimson's 24-19 win over Dartmouth.

"The same thing happened to Larry (Brown, the Harvard QB), he was also emotional before the game," said Polillio. Polillio hadn't scaled down much by the opening kickoff and proceeded to fumble, but teammate Paul Connors recovered. But Polillio eventually settled down, enough so that he might have to do shredded wheat commercials after his outstanding performance against Dartmouth. Harvard offense sputtered through most of the first half with quarterback Larry Brown hitting on only five of 15 passes, and Dartmouth taking a 7-3 lead. "In the second half, we started to have fun out there," said Polillio.

"Matt Granger (Harvard fullback) started blocking and the line was superb. I was getting 5 and 6 yards before I was being tackled," said Polillio, who is listed at 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, but looks a lot smaller. Behind Polillio's second-half running (20 carries for 95 yards) and Brown's pinpointing passing'(six for six in the second half), the Crimson became untracked. "I thought Larry's passing in the second half settled the club down. And I thought Ralph Polillio and Matt Granger really ran well," said Harvard coach Joe Restic after the game.

"But the turning point I thought was the interception by Bob Woolway." Woolway, a sophomore 1 inebacker from Los Angeles, intercepted a Buddy Teevens pass in the flats. That gave Harvard the ball on the Dartmouth 41 and eventually set up the winning touchdown. "I think because our defense is young we just have a hard time getting started. But I thought we played a better in the second half," said Woolway, who also sacked Teevens late in the game. "The pass in the flat is something they had been trying to throw all day, but I played him just right," said Woolway.

"1 think we were up for the game because we haven't lost to Dartmouth since I've been here." Dartmouth hasn't beaten Harvard since 1973. 4 MJm Attention: Purchasing Agents Are you ft'i'ling boxcil If your boss is breathing down your neck due to the high cost and large amount of space needed to warehouse your corrugated, ROMANOW can help. Following the Yale roughing-the-kicker penaity, Columbia quarterback Larry Biondi moved the Lions from his 24 to the Yale 46 before bruising his leg on a run up the middle. Cal Moffie replaced Biondi but couldn't get the Lions closer than the Yale 41. Yale took possession when Moffie's fourth-down pass missed end Artie Pulsinelli streaking toward the goalpost. Yale ran two plays, then Pat O'Brien, passing for towering split end John Spagnola, his favorite target and Yale's top receiver last year, was intercepted by safety Mike Brown at the Yale 39. Moffie, working with 43 seconds to play, scrambled on fourth-and-four at the Yale 45 to keep the drive alive.

Three short passes moved the ball to the Yale 27, giving Taussig a chance to end a six-game Columbia losing streak against Yale. "That kick was not out of question for him," Campbell explained. "He's hit them that far in practice." But Taussig, a former soccer player, has been so inconsistent that Campbell often chooses to go for a two-point conversion after Lion touchdowns. Yale took a 3-0 lead after six minutes when junior Dave Schwartz who had played soccer versus Columbia earlier, booted a 22-yard field goal set up by a fumble recovery at the Columbia 15. Later backup quarterback Dennis Dunn, as time ran out in the first half, moved Yale from its own 37 to the Columbia 8v But tailback Ken Hill fumbled an option pitchout into the end zone, where Columbia's Brown recovered.

By Roger Strong Special to The Globe NEW HAVEN Bill Campbell never has had a team that could beat Yale during his five years as football coach at Columbia. He didn't win yesterday, either, but he managed a 3-3 tie and his team had the ball and was trying for the winning field goal at the end. Lion kicker Ron Taussig's 45-yard attempt fell short with 7 seconds to play. Campbell was not satisfied with the game, particularly because his team's offense could not take advantage of six Yale turnovers. But the fact that the Lions, how 2-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Ivy League their best start since 1946 could challenge the defending league champions speaks well of Campbell's ability to make a team without a passing attack competitive.

Yale has not lost to Colmubia at home since 1961. The Elis had several chances to win, but key mistakes, including a fumble in the end zone near the end of the first half and a roughing-the-kicker penalty late in the game, stopped Yale The penalty for running into Columbia punter Eric Blattman canceled a short punt that would have given Yale the ball on the Lion 32. Blattman, who kicked the ball away 12 times, never allowed Yale good field position until his short punt from the end zone. "That penalty really hurt us. It's the worst one in football," said Yale coach Carm Cozza.

"But every time we fumbled the ball hurt us. We kept stopping ourselves." Penn fought back after the second half kickoff, as halfback Phil Avila climaxed an eight-play, 89-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run. The Quakers tied the game four minutes later.

Kevin Weir intercepted a Lafayette pass, setting up Penn on the Leopard 16. Six plays later fullback Denis Grosvenor went in for the score. Penn took a 17-14 lead when Jon Dwyer hit a 45-yard field goal. But Lafayette went back in front on Rogusky's pass to Smith, who made a juggling catch at the Penn 25 and scampered untouched for the score. With 31 seconds remaining, Lafayette punter Dave Page intentionally took a safety by stepping beyond the end zone.

That cut the margin to 20-19, but Lafayette snuffed out a final Penn threat as time ran out, with the Quakers in possession on the Lafayette 44. With the victory, Lafayette is now 4-3. Penn dropped to 2-2. Sophomore tailback Cris Crissy scored cn a 28-yard scamper off a screen pass and racked up 136 yards rushing as Princeton held on to score its first victory of the year, a 13-12 triumph over Colgate at Princeton's Palmer Stadium. Colgate charged 80 yards in 11 plays to score its second touchdown with 52 seconds remaining.

But a two-point conversion attempt failed when Russ Moyer picked off Colgate quarterback John Marzo's pass. Colgate led 6-3 at halftime behind a 73-yard touchdown run by Angelo Colosimo. It was the junior's eighth touchdown in six games. Junior placekicker Bill Lloyd's extra-point kick sailed wide to the left Two field goals by Chris Howe (35 yards and 25 yards) rounded out the Princeton scoring, Princeton, 1-3-1, snapped a three-year Colgate winning streak over the Tigers, Colgate's record dropping lo 1-5. From Wire Services Senior quarterback Mark Whipple passed for two touchdowns yesterday to spark a second-half comeback and lead Brown to a 21-13 win over previously undefeated Cornell at Ithaca, N.Y.

With his club trailing, 13-7, at the start of the third quarter, Whipple marched the Bruins 78 yards on their first possession of the half. The drive, highlighted by a 50-yard run by junior Marty Moran, culminated in a 3-yard scoring pass from Whipple to tight end Scott Kidger. Again taking control as the fourth quarter began, Whipple connected with Marty DeFrancesco for a 29-yard touchdown to close out the scoring. Brown is now 3-2. Cornell is 3-1-1.

The Bruins had jumped to a 7-0 first-quarter lead when linebacker John Prassas picked off a pass from Cornell's Jim Hofher and scurried 30 yards for the score. For Cornell, kicker Keith Manz sandwiched two field goals around the Big Red's only touchdown, a 3-yard Hofher run, which was set up by a Brown fumble of a punt at their own 13. Connell's Joe Holland, who entered the game as the nation's leading rusher, managed 164 yards to bring his season total to 777, but fumbled twice in key situations. In all, Cornell had five turnovers, four of them fumbles. Tailback Ed Rogusky hit tight end Rich Smith with a 52-yard touchdown pass to give Lafayette a 20-19 victory over Pennsylvania at Easton, Pa.

jT Lafayette built a 14-0 half time lead, but had to hold off a furious Penn rally at the end to preserve the one-point victory. The Leopards scored on their second possession of the game, when quarterback Gary Uzelac found Smith all alone in the end zone.
