The winner, from among the 104 finalists, will be presented the first of 20 annual $50,000 The murder of an Everett man whose body was found in Saugus yesterday was reminiscent of Greater Boston's bloody gangland war of the mid sixties. The victim was identified as America (Rico) Sa-cramone, 37, formerly of Carlson Everett, who was a close companion of the late James (Buddy) McLean, of Somerville, key figure in the celebrated McLean-McLaughlin feud.

Sacramone's body, a bullet hole in the head, his feet bound with wire, was found lying face down in a marshy area in Saugus. Dr. Albert W. Shub, sex County medical examiner, said Sacramone had been shot once in the head, the bullet entering the right temple. The doctor said it ap- peared that Sacramone had been dead for no more than 24 hours.

Sacramone, who was in the midst of the bullet-spattered gangland war of 10 years ago, narrowly escaped death on Oct. 30, 1965, when McLean was fatally shot. Several pellets from the shotgun blast that killed McLean struck Sacramone in the scalp. On parole at that time, Sacramone was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a gun. This was sufficient to revoke his parole, and he was returned to Walpole State Prison to serve out the remainder of a 10-15-year sentence he was given in 1960 for a Medford bank robbery.

In April 1973 Sacramone was picked up by a state trooper as he was walking dazed and bleeding along Rt. 495 in Lowell. When he was removed to St. John's Hospital in Lowell, presumably a hit-run victim, Sacramone reportedly told hospital cials he had been beaten up because he had killed a man.
