Five otner prisoners were booked, and Robey sat on a bench about 10 minutes before he was put into a cell. Ke was quiet in the station possibly in shock and occasionally kickeed out with his feet. Then said he walked to the cell area. During a routine check he was found unconscious on the floor of his cell and taken to the hospital. He was alone in the -cell.

There were, however, about a dozen other prisoners in the area, all of whom were interviewed By Bob Sales Globe Staff The death of prisoner Walter Robey shortly after he was placed in a cell by Boston police early Tuesday was attributed yesterday to a gunshot wound in the abdomen. Det. Sgt. Frank Whalen of the homicide unit said the bullet, which entered Robery's body above the right hip and exited through the left calf, apparently severed a main artery and caused massive internal bleeding. Robey, 29, was found unconscious in the cell at Station 1 at 1:55 a.m.

and died at Boston City Hospital 20 minutes later. Police said he was conscious when he was placed in the cell at 1:35 a.m. Robey was shot shortly after 1 a.m. during a struggle with two Tactical Patrol Force members on Piedmont street in Bay Village. The policemen, who had arrested Robey in February, recognized him and knew he was wanted on a default warrant from that case.
