Boston evening Globe Thursday, June 21, 1973 Industry vs. housing feud over 24 Kendall Sq. acres lar workers. City councilors Francis H. Duehay and Saundra Graham in their report state that the site is ''bet-ter suited for job related pursuits than for housing and the development should be aimed at creating blue collar and other non-professional jobs." Their report points out that industry has been leaving the city and that officials have been unable to recruit other industries.

Blue collar workers are finding it more and more difficult to obtain employment. City councilor Walter J. Sullivan, who made the report known, stated that a 40-story hotel should be constructed on the apex of the triangle at Main street and Broadway. The hotel would have 400 rooms, a garage and office, and retail space on the bottom floors. The Duehay-Graham re port calls for the establishment of an office of economic development and manpower which would prepare and present a development plan for the city.

Within this authority, they state that an industrial and financing authority be established to provide capital for construction. The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce favors the development of the area for business and in dustry because it would bring in added tax revenue. The Cambridge Redevelopment Authority also favores the plan but the Cambridge Municipal Development and Planning Department has proposed that the area be used for low and middle income housing. More than 90 businesses and industries were moved from the 24 acres to make way for the NASA laboratory which President Nixon scrapped. The Federal government is using part of the area, not included in the 24 acres, for the Federal transportation authority.
