Morini Is Soloist On Philharmonic Programjn WHP Erica Morini is soloist in the Tschaikowsky major Violin Concerto as George Szell, guest conductor, directs his first New York Philharmonic Symphony broadcast this season, Sunday, Dec. 17 (WHP 3 4.30 p. EWT). Weber's "Oberon" Overture opens the program which also includes two symphonic poems, "Vltava" by Smetana, and "Till Zulenspie gel's Merry Pranks" by Richard Strauss. The reception accorded Tschai kowsky's only violin concerto when he wrote it in 1878, was not prophetic of its present day popularity.

The composer dedicated this work to Leopold Auer who regarded it as an impossible piece of music and put it aside. Three years later violinist Adolf Brod sky played the concerto in Vienna and earned the gratitude of Tschaikowsky who re dedicated it to him. Although the denunciations of Vienna critics at the time was severe, time has proved the concerto a great musical work. Czech composer Smetana's mu sic expresses his pride in his native land and its people. His most important work, "Ma Vlast" (My Country), is a cycle of six symphonic poems.

"Vltava," the second, pictures the beauties of the river Moldau in Czecho Slo vakia.
