Angiulo, 54, reputed Boston underworld leader, received a three-month prison sentence yesterday for assaulting a Coast Guardsman who cited him for a boating violation last July 4. US District Court Judge W. Arthur Garrity who imposed the sentence after a 90-minute hearing, nqted that the conviction was Angiulo's second for assaulting a Federal official. Angiulo spent 30 days in jail for a 1966 assault on an Internal Revenue Service agent. The charge carries a maximum sentence of three years.

In determining the sentence, Garrity said he did not consider Angiulo's alleged connection with- organized crime, because was not -involved in the boating incident. sense that Angiulo "is a big man, in the sense of being well known, a son who has been in the headlines."
