Dewey. ft t3 By WANDA HALE dS II TV. 3 Although there have been numerous recent war dramas set in Nazi-occupied Norway, "First Comes Courage" cannot be called just another film depicting the cooperation of the Norwegian underground with the Commandos. "First Comes Courage," Columbia picture directed by Dorothy Arzner.

Screen play by Lewis Meltzer and Melvin Levy from story by Elliott Arnold. Presented at Loew's State and Brooklyn Paramount Theatre. Running time, 1 hour, 26 minutes. And the acting is fine, sincere and natural. Centers Around Aristocrat. The story centers around Nicole Larsen, the character which is represented by Miss Oberon. Nicole is an aristocrat, one of the few in the town of Stravig. Her romance with Major Paul Dichter, the German commandant of the garrison, mistaken for treachery by all the loyal Norwegians except Dr.

Aanrud, eye specialist, who is head the underground movement. Going to Dr. Aanrud for treatments, Nicole passes on to him the information she has got from the Nazi officer who loves her so much he wants to make her his wife. So numerous are the Commando raids and the RAF bombings of military objectives around Stravig that Major Dichter begins to suspect Nicole, his only confidant. At the first sign his distrust in her, Nicole reports to Dr.

Aanrud, who reports to the British Commando commandant. Two nights before a scheduled Commando raid on Stravig, a Commando captain, played by Brian Aherne, lands in Stravig murder Dichter and join his troop after the deed is done. Direction Skillful. Suspense mounts high as Capt. Lowell eludes the Gestapo, in Nicole's cellar, waiting for his chance at Dichter, and as, the latter sets a trap to confirm his suspicions of Nicole's treachery to him.

While the ending of "First Comes Courage" is a little far-fetched, it isn't as fantastic as most of Hollywood's escapes. You won't mind because the events leading up to that are presented convincingly, thanks to Dorothy Arzner, who di- Skin or" 'LAST FEATURE AT 1 2:30 A.M. 'I HatmM Sim IMst Cartel.
