r.emng Globe Wednesday, May 13, 1970 O'Donnell asks Mayor White to resign, cites '67 vow cause Mayor Collins had been in office seven years, had built up the city, and would have left an experienced group of aides to run the city. O'Donnell later admitted "I'm not totally shocked" -at White's candidacy. O'Donnell also criticized White for raising taxes. Fish for compliments with a real butter sauce iKl american dairy association i Boston in his search for another public office." O'Donnell was asked it he thought John F. Kennedy should have resigned his Senate seat in 1960 to run for the Presidency.

He said he thought the responsibilities of a senator were far different from the administrative duties of running a large city. Questioned if he thought Mayor John Collins should have resigned in 1966 when he ran for the U.S. Senate, O'Donnell said the situation was different be "It is a matter of public record that there were persons hired by the mayor of Boston with public funds who were used for private purposes," O'Donnell said. He said members of White's office had been calling delegates. O'Donnell said he realized that little could be done in the first two years of a city administration.

That was why he said. Mayor White should stay on. "Two years ago, Mr. White promised the people of Boston that he would be a mayor for a full four-year term. Now, he has announced as a candidate for governor.

He has broken his word to me and to the people." O'Donnell noted that, as White has said, "Too much is at stake in the City of Boston to allow for less than total commitment in the mayor's office." O'Donnell said: "The mayor does our city and the people of this commonwealtha serious disservice by abandoning the people crat, cited Harrison's "avowed support" of Mayor White at the convention which Harrison will control. Harrison said Monday he thought White was ahead in the race for the Democratic nomination. Harrison is believed to be a supporter of White but he did not announce his support for White at that time. O'Donnell criticized Harrison for saying that if the election were held now, Republican Gov. Francis W.

Sargent probably would win. O'Donnell then charged White with using city employees for his own political campaign. By Kenneth D. Campbell Globe Staff Gubernatorial candidate Kenneth P. O'Donnell, citing the "loss of credibility of politicians," told a news conference today he had believed Kevin White's 1967 statement that White had no plans to run for higher office in 1970.

Now sfter White has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for governor, O'Donnell is calling on "White to resign as. mayor. He also called on Rep. David Harrison -Gloucester) to resign as Democratic State Chairman. O'Donnell, a Demo EKBTANNOA BSEACtH IHOTEIL adjoining theataffee sCand Casino PARADISE ISLAND 7 NASSAU.
